How I feed Astilba in the garden in May and achieve a gorgeous Blossom every year
I have developed a long and strong friendship with this plant. I planted Astilba in the first year I bought a garden plot. Over the years that it grows with me, I learned a lot about this plant.
But in this article I want to talk about how to feed it correctly, so that it not only grows, but also blooms very abundantly and beautifully.
Astilbe needs regular feeding, as in principle, and any plant. It grows best on those soils that are rich in phosphorus and potassium. If you are just thinking about planting this plant, then prepare deep grooves for it in advance.
You will add fertilizers to them. You can use both ready-made fertilizers, which contain a whole range of useful substances, and use folk remedies. These include ash, humus, bone meal.
Add these substances directly to the soil, and Astilbe can grow and bloom better in the future. A very good folk remedy is manure. But it must be added to the soil, after diluting it with water.
I advise you to apply fertilizers in the spring, so that by the flowering period the plant will get stronger and gain the necessary nutrients. But for good growth and flowering, not only potassium and phosphorus are needed, but also nitrogen, as well as trace elements.
The procedure for feeding
· I usually start with nitrogen fertilizers. I take 1 part fertilizer and mix it in 5 parts water. With this solution I feed each bush, by applying fertilizer under the root, I try not to get on the leaves. I take 1 liter of solution for 2 bushes.
Also, by May, I usually have a super healthy solution for plants on the basis of steeping herbs. As soon as it appears on my site in large quantities, I begin to put it in a barrel. Then I fill it with water and cover it with a tight lid on top. This means is insisted for 1.5 - 2 months.
By the way, it can be used to feed not only Astilba, but also many other flowering plants.
As for watering with the infusion I mentioned above, this is especially important for dry soils. After watering with this fertilizer, you will need to carefully loosen the soil.
This will rid it of weeds, saturate it with oxygen, and help the solution penetrate closer to the roots. I usually choose peat as the mulch for Astilba. But sawdust and spruce cones can also be used as an option.
