Router for slitting aerated concrete. I make strobes in 30 minutes instead of 3 hours

click fraud protection

In the masonry of walls made of aerated concrete blocks, every fourth row is reinforced, starting with the first:

Reinforcement scheme from Gleb Grinfeld (Chairman of the Association of Aerated Concrete Producers). Reinforcement is necessary to prevent shrinkage and temperature and humidity deformations in the wall material. In simple words, crack prevention.

I will not describe the theory. More detailed information can be viewed on Gleb's channel or, for example, in this video of his: https://youtu.be/VlE3vy1K-_4

According to the latest information, masonry from blocks 400 mm thick can be left without reinforcement. But, I nevertheless decided to do it according to the previous technical solutions, but not with steel reinforcement, but with composite reinforcement. Since, for the tasks of counteracting shrinkage deformations, fiberglass reinforcement is no worse than steel. There will be articles about this later. Moreover, reinforcement in the windowsill zones is a must.

Traditionally, such a purchased or homemade tool is used for chipping aerated concrete:

This tool showed in the article DIY tool for laying aerated concrete blocks.

Working with such a tool is a long and laborious process. I decided to use the trick I saw on the channel Real builder on youtube, where the author uses a milling cutter on his objects, thereby facilitating and accelerating the work. I got such a milling cutter and a milling cutter for it:

  • Router PIT. PEM006-C2 - 4221 rub.
  • Grooving cutter straight d20 * 20 * 8mm, Attack 8141430 - 558 rubles.

A powerful enough milling cutter, the speed is regulated, you can insert two standard sizes (shaft diameters) of the cutter.

Cost in different stores:

The result of slitting (before cleaning from crumbs). The strobe turned out to be a rectangular section of 20x20 mm.

And after cleaning the strobe from dust and crumbs. By the way, why I cleaned the grooves so efficiently - I will write in the next article. But I didn't use a brush at all.

The router has a side stop. It extends to the required distance (so that the strobe passes 50-60 mm from the edge of the block). The process is very fast. In 30 minutes I gouged the entire perimeter of the first row of masonry. Whereas with a hand tool, I would spend at least 3-4 hours (taking into account the markup).

The only inconvenience was that in the corners the guide on the router had to be removed and passed by eye. Well, and carry an extension cord to power the instrument.

A short process video

Someone will say that dust will quickly disable the router. I will say that in the process of work, dust and crumbs fly from the cutter towards the already done groove and a lot of dust does not get into the brushes. And there are spare ones in the kit. Bearings may suffer more. Yes, this is not the job for which the power tool is designed. But it greatly facilitates and accelerates my work in construction. For this, you need a tool.
