Final assembly of the Fusion Big Boy fusion reactor has begun in France
Despite the complexity of the world situation, the scientific group working on the creation of the largest thermonuclear reactor, ITER, did not stop work for a minute. And in the assembly of the installation, the most important and first step has been taken.
The engineering team installed the first and most significant part of the installation, weighing 1200 tons, which was assembled over 10 years.
For the production of only this part, which is 30 meters in height and width, a technical conglomerate Larsen & Tourbo Ltd spent 10 full years.
Already in 2015, the partial assembly was transported to the installation site in France, where in 2016 the final assembly began, which lasted until the end of 2019.
The total weight of the entire cryostat frame with the base and the upper cylinders will be a little as much as 3850 tons.
Already in 2020, on May 26, a specially assembled giant crane lifted a 1200 ton blank and then installed it in its seat.
The installation of the base is an engineering event in itself, because such structures of such a large weight have not been installed before.
The rest of the frame is already prepared for final installation and is stored near the complex under a secure protected and in reliable packaging to prevent the working surfaces of the future thermonuclear reactor.
According to the plan, the experimental thermonuclear reactor at the tokamak should start operating in 2025.
And as soon as the plasma inside the reactor is heated to the required values (according to various estimates, this may take several years), perhaps humanity will receive an inexhaustible source of energy.
Well, there is not much time left until the scheduled date and we can only wait. Perhaps we will witness a new era in energy.
