There used to be a lot of carrot flies, but now there are none at all. The method that helped get rid of her once and for all
Despite its name, this insect is dangerous not only for carrots, but also for the root crops of celery, parsnips and parsley. During the season, 2-3 generations of the pest develop. The danger comes from the larvae devouring the pulp of root vegetables.
Every year I was upset that a fair share of the crop was thrown away because of the carrot fly, but then, neighbor, an experienced gardener, shared with me some tips on how to get rid of this misfortune with folk remedies. That is, cheap and environmentally friendly!
At the very beginning of the season, when planting seeds, you need to shed grooves along them with a solution of 10 liters of water and 1 tbsp. l. birch tar.
When the first shoots appear and it is time to weed and thin them out, pepper infusion for spraying the beds becomes an effective "preparation" for the onion fly.
To prepare it, you need to dissolve 1 tbsp in 10 liters of water. l. black or red ground pepper, as well as 1 tsp. l. liquid soap - for stickiness of the product to greens.
After a while, when the vegetables grow and ripen, garlic infusion helps well against the carrot fly. To do this, you need to cut 100 g of cloves, fill them with 1 liter of warm water and leave in a warm place for 24 hours. Then the liquid should be filtered and diluted with 4 liters of water.
But if wormwood grows on the site or somewhere nearby, this is even better than garlic! Because garlic acts more on repelling the pest, and wormwood can significantly destroy and reduce its local population.
This requires approximately 500 g of fresh grass. It needs to be cut - in order to actively begin to release essential oils. And then - pour 10 liters of hot water.
As soon as the solution cools down, you can process it. Based on personal experience, I can say that you should spray the carrots with it on top, and also you need to spill a little directly on the ground.
Prevention measures are also of great importance - if you follow them, then the chances of a carrot fly appearing on the site are minimized!
And there is nothing complicated about them:
1. It is impossible to thicken the planting in the garden and between the rows with crops from the Umbrella family, the distance should be at least 15 cm.
2. In no case should cow dung be introduced into the soil before sowing vegetables.
3. Among the rows of carrots and parsnips, it is advisable to plant onions on a feather - the carrot fly does not like its smell.
