Hello dear guests and subscribers of my channel. Today I want to tell you about a new technology in metal processing, thanks to which absolutely all parameters of the final product are improved and all hidden defects are easily identified. And we will talk about magnetic pulse processing.

Theory of magnetic pulse processing

So let's take a look at how this new method works and start with the basic elements of the installation.

What parts is the installation made of

So, the installation for processing by the new method consists of:

  • Step-up transformer.
  • High-voltage rectifier.
  • High voltage capacitor.
  • Switch.
  • Specialized technological unit. It consists of a special matrix, implemented in the form of a future blank. The pig itself is made of high quality and highly conductive material and an inductor. In this case, the parts of the inductor are necessarily isolated from each other to prevent electrical breakdown.

Now let's go over the main production steps.

The main stages of the installation

Initially, the process of accumulating energy in the capacitor takes place. Then a relatively low voltage is transformed with a transformer to a higher one.

Further, this voltage goes through the rectification process through a powerful diode and charges the capacitor.

After it is fully charged, the second phase of the process begins.

Then the charged capacitor is discharged to the inductor. But in order for this discharge to occur, you need to use a special device, since the usual the switch will not cope with the load, and the semiconductor switches are simply not designed for such high voltage.

Therefore, specialized controlled arresters are used for discharge.

Such an arrester consists of two main electrodes and one igniter.

The distance between the main electrodes is chosen to withstand the operating voltage of a fully charged capacitor.

And in order to close the power circuit, a high voltage is applied to the control electrode and a spark jumps between it and one of the main electrodes. The result is a breakdown of the air gap between the main electrodes.

Thus, a conductive channel is formed, through which the pre-charged capacitor is discharged to the inductor.

So at the very moment the discharge occurs, a pulse current begins to flow through the inductor, the value of which can reach hundreds of kilo Amperes within fractions of a second.

As a result of such a turbulent process, the instantaneous power can reach very high values.

Also, an alternating magnetic field of increased intensity is formed around the turns of the inductor during this process. Now let's remember the law of electromagnetic induction.

So, according to him, in the workpiece, which is inside the formed electromagnetic fields, eddy currents begin to flow, which are directed opposite to the current passing in inductor.

As a result, due to the repulsive forces, the inductor remains in place, and the workpiece bounces off and takes the shape of a mole profile or the shape of a previously prepared matrix.

This is how magnetic pulse processing works.

What are the advantages of such processing

This type of material processing is used in order to significantly improve the physical and mechanical properties of the workpiece.

Since the area of ​​influence of the installation concentrates on all the weak points in the workpiece where there are inhomogeneities in the crystal lattice of the metal, there are impurities or other extraneous inclusion.

So, as a result of magnetic-pulse processing, the defect is corrected or its obvious manifestation.

This means that the part is of high quality without defects. In addition, corrosion resistance also increases by 40% and strength increases by at least one and a half times.

Where is this technology used?

At the moment, only three countries have such technology: Russia, Germany and France, and the installations are used for experiments and the production of parts for the space and aviation industries.

The center of such developments in Russia is the Samara University, where a universal unit was developed with the possibility of automatic power control.

In addition, the institute collects similar installations for foreign customers from countries such as China, USA, Switzerland and Finland.
