How I made great tapestries without a tape measure: the experience of a FORUMHOUSE participant
Measure seven times - cut once: this folk wisdom can be put aside if you know how to use a hacksaw and a marker correctly. Participant FORUMHOUSE Victoria made the tapestries on her own without resorting to drawings and measurements. What she did - read on.
Tinkering in my blood
In general, I'll start with the fact that I'm a lover of tinkering. It calms me down, balances me, gives me new strength. Before the construction of the dacha, my apartment was being renovated, where I did 80% of the work with my own hands. But, the repair came to an end and it was necessary to urgently do something again, because my hands were itching very much, and my soul was singing.
I also have a dacha, which is completely built according to my own project - I am happy with everything. But now the time has come to bring everything to mind, as they say - to equip the nest, to create comfort both in the house and in the yard.
Priority saving
So, there is a porch with crossbars, but somehow not cozy - I decided to make trellises. Ready to buy, of course, you can, but in the barn there is a workbench, and there is also a hacksaw, a plane, a hammer and nails.
And everything seems to be there, but there are not enough bars, boards, slats, impregnation - that's all! After them I go, according to a long-standing tradition, to the local construction market. I buy the necessary material. Here I will explain in more detail: to reduce the cost of the product, I bought everything at discounts, that is, mostly illiquid. Save up to 40%, and that's what I need!
Well, actually, my technology
I picked up the dimensions of the timber, boards and slats by eye - I didn't really care about the drawings. I planned the tapestry in the same way: I brought the rail, estimated the height and width I needed, marked it with a marker and cut the sections - I didn't even touch the tape measure!
Then she fastened the sections with nails, and made the crate in one direction. I covered the whole thing with impregnation with a dark shade. Next, I covered the other part of the slats with transparent varnish. This is for contrast, so that the tapestry does not seem boring. Then I fixed the slats in the opposite direction. The trellis is ready, it remains only to dig in the pillars and install, but that's another story!
