How to close up the gap between the iron pipe and the roof of the bath: my experiment with mounting fire-resistant foam
To avoid leaks, you need to take care of a good seal. Correct sealing on the roof ensures the safety and durability of the entire structure.
After the building, there is a gap between the roof and the chimney. Sediments penetrate through the holes. So it happened with my bath. I thought about how to close the gap between the roof and the round pipe.
In the store, the seller praised the polyurethane foam (fire-resistant). It is not cheap - about 450 rubles. Foam output up to 47 liters. The fire resistance limit is 240 minutes.
The spray can says that it is used to seal window, door blocks, wall joints, chimney and ceilings. Sealing of fire-resistant structures and fire and smoke protection.
I thought I should try. The foam adheres well to any surface: cement, wood, metal, stone, etc. The foam penetrates deeply into small cracks, expands when hardened, is resistant to moisture and mold.
When I changed the pipe (the old pipe rusted in some places, cracks appeared), I put additional protection for the bricks (old metal bucket).
So, I prepared everything and began foaming the place between the pipe.
I waited a day until it hardens well. A day later he flooded the bathhouse. After a while, an unpleasant smell appeared inside and outside.
I climbed onto the roof and looked at what happened to the foam. It burned out by 1-2 cm. from the pipe.
All that was left was to regret having wasted money. It turns out that the foam has passed its fire resistance threshold and charred around the pipe.
I think not to remove the foam, but to close the gap with an asbestos cord. Maybe in this case it will be possible to achieve good sealing. What do you think? What is the best way to fix this place?
