Reconstruction of an old house: how I made water supply and what problems did I face

As the saying goes: it's easier to build two new houses than to renovate one old one. This statement did not appear so easily, but, apparently, painful. When you start the reconstruction process, it seems that it is more economical, but in fact it often turns out the opposite. Participant FORUMHOUSE under the nickname Gtige faced the restoration of an old house. Its current history is dedicated to water supply.

What's going on with me

Rebuilding an old country house. The beginning of work is the summer of 2014, I carry out the reconstruction alone, on weekends. In this construction, I do not pretend to fully comply with building codes, I am guided by the economic feasibility and speed of work.

How I set up the water supply

After the purchase of the village house, the issue of water supply was acute. From the previous owners inherited a pit 2 meters deep. It was covered with old planks so as not to fall through, and needed a new overlap.

The first thing I did was pour a concrete base and put in a metal hatch. Further, I installed a Dzhileks pumping station with a 30-liter hydraulic tank and a water-folding unit for supplying water to the house, the bathhouse and to the site.

What did it cost me

My water costs:

the cost of the station in 2014 was about 7 thous. rubles;
the cost of a water-folding unit made of PP is about 5 thous. rubles.

Troubles came from all fronts

But this water supply system did not work for long: after about 4 years, the plastic pump casing cracked. And already in the fall of 2019, water with sand began to flow from the well, the pressure began to decrease until the water completely disappeared. The current situation led to new expenses and pushed to drill a well - this is a reliable source of water supply.

Way out of the situation and additional costs

In the spring of this year, I drilled a new Abyssinian well ten meters deep, installed a new pump (DAB 82M), assembled a water-folding assembly from HDPE components. I had to spend extra money on this:

well cost - 12,500 rubles;
pump cost: 10 thous. rubles;
water-folding unit - approximately 2 thous. rubles.

This is how I checked that very statement. In my case, it worked 100% - I had to spend twice!
