Do the second sowing of Cucumbers. It's not too late to get a great Harvest
In order to extend the harvest time for cucumbers, I plant this crop a second time in July. Plants that sprout in the middle of summer will yield a later harvest when the bulk of the plants are already dry.
This way you can provide your family with fresh vegetables in late autumn. Plants can be sown both in the greenhouse and in open ground.
How to choose the right variety
1. Cucumber varieties that have long fruits yield good yields, but they are not in demand in the fall.
2. Plants with short fruits bear very early fruiting, but at the same time the vine dries out quickly.
3. Medium-sized cucumbers are ideal for late cultivation.
Such plants are capable of bearing fruit even in not the most favorable conditions, with temperature drops and short daylight hours.
Seed preparation
The largest seeds are selected for cultivation. To test germination, I make a saline solution. I give 2 tablespoons of ordinary salt per liter of water, and stir well. I pour all the seeds into the solution. Those that floated up, I just throw it away - it does not sprout.
Also, for prevention, I recommend holding the seeds in a weak solution of potassium permanganate.
Before planting seeds in open ground or a greenhouse, they should be treated with fertilizers. To do this, I dilute the chemicals with water, moisten a piece of cloth (natural), and wrap the seeds in it.
The tissue should remain damp (but not wet) until the seeds germinate. After the first roots appear, they are planted in the soil. If it is very dry, then the soil is pre-moistened.
Plant care
First of all, you need to loosen the soil and remove weeds. In this case, you should not loosen very deeply - the root system is very fragile and sensitive.
It is also necessary to apply mineral and organic fertilizers on time. At the same time, chlorine should not be present in the dressing - cucumbers do not tolerate it. It is especially important to feed in the early stages of development.
During the flowering period, the culture should be fed with such drugs as "Crystallin", "Nitrofoska", "Solution". I dissolve one tablespoon of the substance in three liters of water and add the solution to the root. After two weeks, I re-fertilize, but I make a larger amount of solution.
For outside root feeding, I dissolve half a teaspoon of superphosphate in a bucket of water and spray the plants.
This treatment is best done in cloudy weather, when there is no extreme heat. It can also be done late in the evening.
Cucumbers respond very well to watering. But excessive moisture can lead to developmental delay. The plant roots must have access to oxygen.
