Favorite annual flowers that I grow from my own seeds
Harvesting your own seeds in the garden and vegetable garden is an activity that only experienced gardeners and gardeners can do. In this process, a lot of different factors should be taken into account in order to get what was in the past, or better in the next growing season. Inexperienced breeders make a lot of mistakes, are disappointed with the result and then follow the principle “It's easier to buy, it's not that expensive”.
What mistakes are made when harvesting seeds
Here are the top mistakes that I find the most common:
1. The main mistake that summer residents make when choosing a plant for harvesting planting material is to take seeds from the most beautiful plants, forgetting that these are hybrids. That is, a product of genetic crossing, an artificially bred species. This specimen does not retain its properties in the next generation and, having planted its seeds, they receive an "unknown animal". It is necessary to take seeds of only varietal plants, and those bearing the F1 sign are not allowed. This means hybrid.
2. Do not wait for ripening and the seeds are not germinating. The fruit that is intended for seeds must be marked with a ribbon, or, as I do, wrapped with non-woven material and brought to full ripeness on a bush. The flower for seeds is left first or second, they are the most powerful.
3. Seeds don't dry well enough and they grow moldy. After that, they become unsuitable for growing.
Where to begin
Start with annual flowers. The most beloved annuals that I have grown in my flower garden from self-prepared material:
1. Mallow.
2. Nasturtium.
3. Marigold.
4. Cynias.
5. Snapdragon.
6. Annual dahlias
7. Rudbeckia.
Try growing flowers from your seeds. It is very pleasant and interesting.
