We have eaten the strawberries, it's time to take care of the future harvest. Top dressing, thanks to which you will collect a record Harvest
Strawberries are a crop that ends fruiting at the beginning of summer. Immediately during this period, the bushes begin to prepare for the next season. For strawberries to produce good yields without transplanting for 3-4 years, proper care should be provided.
If the bushes grow in the same place, then the soil becomes very poor in nutrients, the strawberries begin to degenerate and the berries become smaller.
Ensure proper care before starting feeding
1. Remove all weeds. They grow very quickly and drain the soil.
2. Loosen the soil between the rows and add mulching material. This will create additional protection against diseases and pests.
3. Cut off leaves and tendrils, which also drain plants. In particular, it is worth paying attention to bushes that are more than two years old. This will remove a large number of pests and prevent the development of diseases.
4. Mustache trimming should be done several times over the summer.
Features of feeding in the summer
In July, the first feeding of the strawberry bed is carried out. For this purpose, I use ammophoska. It contains sulfur, potassium, nitrogen and phosphorus. Trace elements are well absorbed and allow plants to concentrate the greatest amount of nutrients in the root system.
Also, these substances contribute to the formation of flower buds, which will bloom next spring.
For 1 square meter, it is enough to add from 15 to 30 g of fertilizer. More fertilization will not be beneficial and may harm the plantings. I also apply this fertilizer to the beds with remontant varieties, when the first fruiting season comes to an end.
In the second half of August or early September, fertilizers can also be applied. This is appropriate when the July feeding is missed. For 1 square meter I bring in 1 bucket of humus. After that, I bring in preparations containing potassium.
Mineral fertilizers that can be applied to the soil in a strawberry garden:
Superphosphate;
· potassium salt;
Potassium monophosphate.
Also, a large amount of potassium is found in wood ash. It is enough to add one handful for each plant.
If dry root dressing is performed, then it is imperative to water it after fertilizing. Otherwise, the plant will simply not be able to assimilate nutrients.
When using potassium salt, it is worth giving 20 g of the substance per 10 liters of pure water. I pour this solution in the aisles. If superphosphate is used, then I give 10 g per bucket.
What not to do
Fertilizers containing nitrogen should not be given. The plant will simply grow and will not be able to form flower buds. Nitrogen is found in chicken manure and cow dung.
These fertilizers are very aggressive and can kill plants or provoke excessive green mass growth.
