Houses with glass walls: a selection of fragile architecture
Glass architecture is a relatively new phenomenon and, one might say, ahead of its time. Outstripped because our society is not yet ripe for a culture of living in such houses. Firstly, it is not customary for us to show off everything; secondly, a house made of glass is not very good protection from burglars and vandals. But nevertheless, they are in distant Europe and arouse keen interest in us. We keep up with the trends and bring to your attention a selection of glass-style houses. Where would a glass house be appropriate?
Such a house is unlikely to fit into our realities. Well, just imagine, an ordinary Russian street with pits in the asphalt, skewed wooden fences and dim lighting. The picture, in general, is sad and a bright transparent house will look like a black sheep against the background of metal and slate roofs.
Glass houses have one clear advantage - the view from the inside. Here, we can say that the role of walls is played by huge windows, and it is desirable that these windows look at something inspiring and pleasant. A forest, a river, a picturesque meadow - houses with a high view should look at these places.
The place for such buildings is closed guarded cottage settlements, recreation areas on the shore of some lake, very remote areas. A dream home in an ordinary village or gardening partnership is not worth building.
About disadvantages
The rest can be ranked as disadvantages, since these buildings are created more for a mild climate. Well, here's how to heat it in our weather conditions? Still, glass does not have sufficient thermal insulation. Imagine how much condensation there will be on the windows-walls, if the house is not provided with sufficient heat and proper ventilation.
Briefly about prices
In appearance, everything seems simple: glass and concrete are affordable and inexpensive materials, and, therefore, a house from them should not come out too expensive. But this is not the case. Still, here you need technological heating, not the cheapest ventilation and non-ordinary glass, the costs of which will probably be more expensive than a solid brick wall. As a result, you can get housing at the price of a very elite apartment.
But, nevertheless, Russia is gradually being captured by the fashion for glass-concrete houses. Old architectural styles have become boring; all these clinker facades, old-fashioned painted plaster, siding... well, fed up. Still, modern buildings-mirrors remind us that we live in the 21st century, and architecture reacts to this: the windows become larger, gradually turning into walls. Evolution, so to speak ...
