5 effective ways to speed up the ripening of tomatoes
Many summer residents and gardeners are concerned in August with how the tomatoes ripen faster so that they do not have time to damage late blight and taste their fruits. There are several ways to speed up the ripening of tomatoes.
1. Treatment of plants with iodine solution. You need to add 10-20 drops of iodine to a 10-liter bucket of water and stir. Then you should spray the plants.
In addition to rapid ripening, iodine gives tomatoes sweetness and fights fungal diseases.
2. Cutting the stems with a knife. At a height of 10-12 cm, you need to pierce the stem through. The length of the cut should be approximately 3-4 cm. In the resulting hole, insert a chip 1.5 cm wide and 4-5 mm thick.
Without it, the cut will simply heal. The principle of this technique is that the plant receives stress and gives an impetus to the rapid ripening of fruits. Nutrition from the roots proceeds as before, and the fruits are poured and ripened.
3. Providing the tomatoes with maximum sunlight. Bunches of tomatoes should be hung so that they are directed to the south side, towards the sun's rays. Leaves must be removed, which shade the fruit. Also, all the lower leaves and flower brushes that do not have time to ripen are removed.
4. Plucking the first ripe tomato from a bush. This will speed up the ripening process of subsequent fruits.
5. There is also another trick that few people know about. In greenhouses, they put containers with apples that are already ripe. These fruits release ethylene, which contributes to the rapid ripening of tomatoes.
