A fiery fireworks display, comrades gardeners!

Do you want to harvest good strawberries? Be sure to feed the berry in August. In the article you will find out why it is necessary to do this, and, of course, you will read the options tested in practice (including without purchased fertilizers).

In August, the gardener has a lot of things to do. Collecting and processing crops, summer residents forget about strawberries, which at that moment have already ceased to bear fruit. Sincerely believing that spring care is enough, people complain that there are few peduncles, the gardener sees: the berry harvests are getting smaller. There is a pattern: how you feed strawberries in August, you will harvest such a crop next year.

Let's see why feeding at the end of summer is so important

It is a huge mistake of a gardener to think that since a strawberry is "resting" it is not necessary to take care of it. The trick is that after fruiting, the plant does not quite rest.:

  • plants need support after fruiting and pruning, they gave all their strength to please us with delicious berries;
  • August is a good time to strengthen the bush, especially the roots, a strong plant is more successful in resisting attacks from diseases and pests;
  • a decrease in the duration of daylight hours - the time of laying fruit buds; in the absence of nutrition, do not expect abundant flowering next year;
  • fertilization in August increases the winter hardiness of strawberries, their resistance to the autumn-winter whims of nature.

I think, comrades, convincing arguments are enough.

Preparation for feeding: I definitely do and I advise you to spend an hour

Luggage of dry and diseased strawberry leaves is definitely useless

If the beds have not yet been put in order and are in disrepair, do this before feeding:

  • cut off the spotted, reddened leaves damaged by pests;
  • trim your mustache;
  • remove weeds that draw nutrients from the soil and create thickening - an excellent springboard for pathogens and parasites.

Although this, comrades, is not directly related to the topic of the article, I advise you not to neglect the processing of the strawberry garden. After all, her health and productivity is made up of several terms!

How to feed strawberries in August for a big harvest next year: now you know 4 option

Strawberries require attention for the entire growing season, fully revealing their potential only to caring owners.

Use trial and error to determine which strawberry fertilizer works best for your soil.

The rule is the same for everyone: at the end of summer, you should not experiment with nitrogen fertilizing. Bushes begin to fatten to the detriment of flower stalks. Abundant growth of green shoots in the autumn is completely unnecessary, it only reduces the winter hardiness of the plant.

Have you decided to feed the strawberries with liquid solution? Try to pour on the ground (under the root and around the bush

The main options for late summer feeding:

  • 2 tbsp. l. superphosphate and 1 tbsp. pour ash with 10 liters of water, stir until the granules are completely dissolved, leave for 2-3 days. Pour the liquid fertilizer over the strawberries, being careful not to get on the leaves.
  • 20 g of superphosphate and 20 g of potassium salt per 10 liters of water will provide nutrition to the roots and give an impetus for the formation of fruiting rudiments.
  • "Kemira autumn" (or analogs) - received many positive reviews from gardeners. Spread 50 g of fertilizer per 1 square meter of plantings between the bushes, with the help of loosening, embed it in the soil. The granules have a prolonged action time. By feeding strawberries at the end of August, you can do without autumn feeding.
But after using granular fertilizers, I advise you to shed a lot of strawberry beds, if the weather forecast does not promise rain in the coming days. After all, moisture will make the granules dissolve and start acting now.
  • And what about those comrades who do not accept chemistry and have not stocked up on humus? An excellent fertilizer for strawberries in August is wood ash with bone meal. Ash contains up to 5% potassium, bone meal up to 15% phosphorus. Organic matter is mixed in a 2: 1 ratio, sprayed around the bushes and embedded in the soil.
