How I keep Cucumbers fresh in the refrigerator for over a month and without losing Taste
Who doesn't want to have fresh, crispy, fragrant cucumbers on the table longer? That's just - keeping quality of any varieties leaves much to be desired!
They are stored in the vegetable compartment for no more than a week. But this is if you take them and fold them as they are. Or you can use a method that is known, by the way, even to chefs!
I personally tried it once and since then I have kept cucumbers like this for a month!
First of all, you need to select vegetables that, in principle, can be stored for a long time, they must be:
· Strong to the touch;
· without damage;
· Not overgrown with yellowness;
· With a dense skin;
· Not the smallest greens.
I also want to emphasize that the method I am describing is suitable only for cucumbers from my garden. That is, as soon as the harvest is harvested, you need to put it in the refrigerator, not holding it anywhere else for a long time! And for the same reason, I could not keep the cucumbers bought on the market longer than 10 days.
In addition, from personal experience I can say that for some reason greenhouse varieties of fast ripening differ in poor keeping quality. Therefore, you need to choose from soil varieties.
Do I need to wash the selected cucumbers? In my opinion, this is overkill! Indeed, in plants, as it were, nature itself "provides" some protection against decay. So no brush! If there is dirt on the fruits, they can be removed with ordinary napkins and, in general, the vegetables should be dry.
Next, you need to pour some cold running water into the bowl and fill it tightly with cucumbers, placing them vertically, tails up. The water should not cover them up to the top - enough if it is 2-3 centimeters. It is important that all cucumbers remain dry, only getting wet at the bottom!
The safety of vegetables is explained by the fact that they are, as it were, "fed" with fresh water, like cut roses in a bouquet! The fact is that cucumbers, like flowers, gradually lose moisture.
So, taking it out of the container, they smoothly recover. And do not be afraid that due to this storage method, they will be watery! Nothing like this!
They will remain crispy and delicious! The water should be drained and changed every 2 days.
I want to highlight another important point about storing cucumbers in the refrigerator - negative temperatures are destructive for them, that is, lowering less than 0 ° C. Therefore, it is important that they are not located near the freezer.
