Do you make Strawberry Plots in September? I also advise everyone as well, explain why I am doing this
It would seem - what can be said about strawberries in September? Except for making jam! But in fact, this is the most suitable month to equip strawberry beds and now I will tell you in detail why I am sure of this!
If the land on the site is heavy, clayey, and most importantly acidic, it must be neutralized in advance. You can use chalk for this - 0.3 kg per 1 sq. m. of the plot allocated for the garden.
I categorically do not recommend using slaked lime for deoxidation - because of it, toxic, dangerous compounds for humans accumulate in the berries!
If the soil on the site is normal, you can immediately start arranging the beds. They should always be in the sun with a north-south orientation.
Because so - maximum lighting will help the berries to ripen large and sweet. Also, strawberry beds should be located where strong winds do not blow, where there is no stagnation of water.
Strawberry predecessors are of great importance. It is unacceptable to plant the "queen" of cultivated berries after eggplants, tomatoes, potatoes, cabbage, since they all have diseases in common with it.
And of course, you shouldn't make strawberry beds in the same place for several years in a row! Garlic, onions, radishes, carrots, celery and beets are considered good precursors.
There is a common myth that strawberries cannot stand fertilization with manure. It is true, but if you apply manure in the fall, by the next season it will have time to decompose properly, becoming safe and increasing the fertility of the land.
In total, for each square. m. beds, it is necessary to apply the following fertilizers immediately and comprehensively, mixing them with the soil:
· 2 buckets of manure;
· 2 buckets of sand;
· 2 buckets of leafy earth;
1 bucket of wood ash;
· 2 tbsp. l. double superphosphate;
· 2 tbsp. l. potassium sulfate.
This way, you can lay the foundations for abundant, luxurious strawberry fruiting!
Next, you can form the beds themselves. The bed height should be about 40 cm. The width of the beds when planting bushes in 1 row is 20-30 cm, if in 2 rows - 50-60 cm. The distance between the beds should be maintained at 50-80 cm. Thus, the plantings will be easy to care for.
In order for the beds to retain their shape better, they must be shed with water. Then, when the first frosts are outlined in the weather forecast, it is time to hide them under the covering material.
Based on personal experience, I advise you to choose a black material - then in the spring the ground under it will warm up faster.
That's all you need to do in order to take care of the beds on which strawberries will grow gorgeous in the fall!
