I spend 20 minutes in the fall processing currants, but I'm sure
A fiery fireworks display, comrades gardeners!
Do you want to grow an exemplary currant in the country? Take care of her health! It is unlikely that it will be possible to collect harvest buckets from a sick bush.. My must-have point in a short checklist for effective care is autumn currant processing.
Comrades, I am not a supporter of action for the sake of action. I try to limit my gardening to procedures that are really needed at this stage.
Why do I work with currant bushes every autumn
To someone, the autumn treatment of currants from diseases may seem like a whim. But! This will eliminate many problems in the future, and, therefore, do not have to waste time in the spring and summer of the next season. When, you must agree, a good gardener is already up to the neck 😊
Important! Even if the bush looks healthy outwardly, this does not mean that harmful fungi and bacteria do not live on it. Insidious microorganisms, while not giving themselves away, can wait in the wings. For example, in cracks in the bark. Rest assured: as soon as favorable conditions come, the currants will be under threat.
By that time, a possible infection (and it often visits our black, red and white currant bushes!) Will develop. And one treatment, as now, will not get off.
And one more plus in the treasury of evidence of the benefits of autumn processing of currants from diseases. This is a profitable investment in the future! If in May-June fungi and bacteria begin to sharpen the bush, then stress oppresses the plant and it will give few good berries. And using chemicals will already be dangerous: the crop will become toxic.
Preparing for preventive treatment of currant bushes in the fall: 2 easy steps
To work in the garden as efficiently as possible, you should not start it with a breeze. Before processing it is useful:
- Wait until a large mass of currant leaves wither naturally and fly to the groundYu. All of it must be removed from the garden: remove it from the branches with a gloved hand and rake it. After all, old foliage is a reliable home for bacteria, fungi and pests. Their presence will nullify the benefits of our work.
- Make formative cropping. I am sure that the best time for cutting currants is autumn. Otherwise, in the spring you will have to hurry up before the sap flow begins, jumping like a mountain goat over the snowdrifts of a snow-covered garden. And why waste time processing unnecessary currant branches now if they will still go under the pruner?
I do not insist on the indispensability of the points. But I emphasize: comrades, this will only benefit and will be rewarded with a harvest.
The processing process itself (20 minutes - and you're done): I write point by point
To protect the currants, I use one of my favorite remedies - copper sulfate (aka copper sulfate). I like him exceptional color efficiency: an affordable drug, proven by time and more than one generation.
- I cook first solution: 300 g in a bucket of 10 liters of warm water. Warm - because it is easier to dissolve the ingredients in it. It turns out a liquid with a strength of 3%, with the addition of lime, for some unknown reason, it is also called "Bordeaux". But one vitriol is enough for me.
- On my own I add some shavings of "green" or laundry soap. Once thoroughly dissolved, they act as an adhesive. So the working solution will not appear on the ground in the first minutes after treatment due to the autumn breeze or sudden frosty rain.
I abundantly spray the currants from a spray bottle or (if the bush is of modest size) I wipe it with a kitchen sponge dipped in a solution of copper sulfate. The second option is laborious, but it seems to me more reliable - not a single square centimeter will be without protection! I dilute the remains a little more with water and spill the trunk circle.
