Orchid care is one of the most popular topics for flower growers at home. It is not surprising: for all its popularity and beauty, this flower is quite capricious and requires special care.

The other day I discovered that one of my orchids will soon be blooming. Then she immediately went for expanded clay in order to transplant an orchid into it. I explain why I did this.

The advantages of growing orchids in expanded clay

Why did I decide to transplant the orchid into expanded clay? The thing is that this material has a number of advantages:

· Expanded clay is able to retain moisture in all its layers, regardless of depth, in contrast to the soil, which dries up.

· It is completely chemically neutral.

· Unlike soil, pests never start in expanded clay - this is a very significant advantage, especially for growing plants that are susceptible to them.

· A flower planted in expanded clay can be watered less often. Due to this, the situation of "overflow" and negative consequences due to it are less likely.

· Caring for the plant as a whole becomes much easier - no need to fiddle with soil processing and so on.

· Expanded clay can be used for a long time, do not change as often as the soil.

Especially attractive to me is the idea that expanded clay does not have as many problems as it can have soil - no pests, difficulties with acidity or moisture do not overshadow caring for orchid.

It is worth replanting an orchid in expanded clay just when all its life processes are activated - for example, it is about to bloom.

Some are sure that this must be done without fail in the spring. In fact, the time of year in this matter is not at all so important, much more important is the life phase of your orchid. That is why I decided to transplant her now.

After transplanting, it remains only to apply fertilizer and continue to maintain a temperature regime that is comfortable for the orchid. You can water the flower much less often. The height of the water layer is easy to determine from the side holes made in the pot.

Growing an orchid in expanded clay takes much less time and effort, in addition, you have more chances to have a beautiful, healthy plant that will delight with its flowering and not deliver hassle. Good luck to everyone who is going to try it!
