We remove White bloom on soil in flower pots in an elementary way

White bloom on the soil of flower pots is formed for two reasons: watering with water of high hardness, its further evaporation due to dry air in the room and the colonization of the soil surface with mold fungi.

Both of these processes are natural both in nature, when salinization of vast land areas is observed in hot climates, and at home, where the surrounding air is dried out by heating devices.

And do not blame yourself for doing something wrong. Mold microflora is also common in soil substrates saturated with incompletely decomposed plant residues.

But I learned to deal with this not entirely aesthetic problem. I'll tell you how I do it.

I try to select pots 2-3 cm larger in diameter than the root system of plants and 4-5 cm deeper. This distance is necessary for drainage.

There must be holes at the bottom of the container. I pour expanded clay or small pebbles into a 3 cm container as the first layer. These materials conduct water well. I try to give watering to the pallet. But only moisture-loving plants can be watered this way.

Those that cannot tolerate stagnant moisture, I water in the usual way. I pour mulch on top of the soil - agroperlite with a layer of 1 cm.

In those pots where there is no agroperlite, I spend the following:

1) I loosen the soil 2-3 days after each watering;

2) Once a month I replace the upper 1.5-2 cm of soil, at this moment I process the edges of the pot with a solution of citric acid at the rate of 1 tsp. 200 ml of warm water, which dissolves calcium deposits.

I carefully wipe the container with a napkin, preventing the acid from flowing into the remaining soil;

3) 2 times a month I treat the soil surface and the edges of the container with hydrogen peroxide from a spray bottle, trying not to touch parts of the plants;

4) I water the soil with a weak solution of potassium permanganate once a month;

5) every week I sprinkle the soil with crushed activated carbon (1-2 tablets) to prevent the development of molds.

White bloom on the surface of the soil in a pot can give fertilizer mineral salts, which are added to the soil for seedlings of vegetables. In this case, disinfecting drugs are powerless.

Therefore, it is better to choose a special soil for home flowers, focusing on the pH level and the degree of its saturation with plant residues. The fewer the better.

The flowers respond to the change in the top layer of the soil with increased growth and flowering, so be sure to practice this technique!
