How you can insulate a balcony door: cheap and cheerful

Our winters are frosty. Therefore, in this life hack I will describe how you can insulate a balcony door: cheap and cheerful.

What do you need

• door seal and window seal;
• scissors.

Algorithm of work

First, you need to assess the condition of the door: if it is a wooden door, then there is a high probability that there are cracks. How to deal with them? For example, you can use a special seal for windows and doors. Basically, these are the same material. The only difference is in the width of the tape: for doors it is 12 mm, for windows it is 9 mm.

First, you need to cut the tape to the size of all four sides of the door, along the perimeter.

At the same time, we use 12mm tape on the side of the door that opens into the room, and 9mm tape on the side that opens onto the balcony.

When marking, it is necessary to control that the tape goes into all corners joint to joint.

On the side of the door where the hinges are, you need to cut 3 separate pieces if you have a double-hinged door and 4 if you have a three-hinged one.

Now the fun begins, here you can't do without women's manicure and neatness;) It is necessary to very carefully separate the yellow paper base of the tape from the adhesive double-sided tape. At first glance, it seems that you are tearing off the tape, in fact, you can accidentally tear off the tape. Therefore, with the help of nails, it is necessary to find a place where it is possible to peel off only the paper itself from the adhesive part.

Peel off only a small gap, a few centimeters. With one hand, hold the tape parallel to the surface of the door frame to which you will apply it (yes, by the way, for reliability, the tape it is applied precisely to the immovable part, the frame, and not the immovable, door), and the second gradually peel off the paper base: from top to bottom or to the left right. Since you do not have a third hand, it is good if another person helps you: with a gradual movement, he will firmly press the insulation against the door frame. In this case, it is better that the one who pushes the paper backing and the one who presses the tape against the frame act synchronously.

It is best if the seal completely covers the width of the frame.

However, if it is not enough and you are thinking where exactly to glue the insulation, it is better to do it at the very edge so that the door contact with the frame is as tight as possible.

When all the pieces of tape around the perimeter of the frame are glued, try closing the door and check for leaks.

Now even in the most severe frosts you can enjoy a warm room thanks to the sealed balcony door :)
