7 rules for planting garlic, which will allow you to get an excellent harvest.
Growing garlic is not easy. For the harvest to please, it is necessary to plant garlic for the winter. There are several rules, following which, you can provide not only yourself with garlic, but also sell part of the harvest.
Preparation for planting begins immediately after harvest. The harvested garlic is sorted. Beautiful large heads are best left for seeds.
The better the planting material, the larger the garlic heads will grow. Having selected the seeds, you should store them in a dark place until planting.
Rules that will allow you to get an excellent harvest:
1. Seeds, selected in advance, are revised again: it is necessary to discard any garlic that looks suspicious. Each head is divided into teeth just before planting.
2. Garlic is prone to various diseases, despite its bitterness. To avoid the most common diseases and infections, the seeds should be soaked in a manganese solution for a couple of hours before planting.
Prepare a weak solution so that it is a little pink. You can use fungicides, but potassium permanganate is safer for our health.
3. In the process of separating the heads into cloves, do not damage the garlic. If you plant garlic without a protective husk, then most likely it will rot in the ground and will not sprout in the spring.
4. Particular attention should be paid to the temperature regime, at which it is best to plant garlic in the ground. This is not easy to do. If you plant in a warm place, then the garlic will begin to grow, and will die with the onset of frost.
When the air temperature dropped to -10 degrees, the garlic will die again without starting to sprout. Therefore, you should plant garlic at a temperature not lower than -6 or -8 degrees.
5. The planting depth of the garlic is just as important. It is best to immerse the garlic in the soil no more than 8 cm and at least 6 cm. When planted shallowly, the garlic can freeze out, and if it is planted too deep, the head will not grow large.
6. The fact that it is necessary to carry out crop rotation from time to time is known to all gardeners. Garlic is no exception. He will not produce a good crop in the same garden for two years in a row.
7. In no case should you feed garlic for the winter. In early spring, garlic will need nitrogen fertilization.
If you follow these simple rules, you can get a wonderful harvest of garlic.
