The last dressing of roses at the end of October is the most important
I love roses very much. There are already several in my garden. I try to take care of them correctly and in a timely manner. And autumn is the time to prepare roses for winter.
It is very important to make the last dressing in October. Indeed, during the flowering period, roses consume a large amount of nutrients from the soil.
By the fall, they become even less, which means it is necessary to replenish. In addition, feeding in autumn will help you survive pruning better, strengthen immunity and resistance to diseases, and give strength for a successful winter. And, finally, autumn dressing is the key to good growth of roses in spring and more lush flowering.
The latest autumn top dressing is the most optimal with potassium content. It is he who contributes to an increase in the resistance of the plant in winter cold, improves the condition of the soil, helps to withstand pests and guarantees a lush bloom in spring with a large number of flowers.
Therefore, in my opinion, the best fertilizer you can buy in a rose store in October is potassium sulfate. You can also use a combination of potassium with phosphorus.
The latter is an excellent addition by strengthening the roots before cold weather. Fertilizer containing both potassium and phosphorus is superphosphate. Potassium sulfate and superphosphate are granules. I just bury them near the rose bushes.
You need 40-60 g per bush. But one year I use potassium fertilizer in the form of potassium sulfate or superphosphate, and the next year I also use potassium fertilizer, but according to a folk recipe. This is wood ash.
I prepare an infusion from it: I add 100 g of ash to a bucket of water 10 liters, I insist for two days. Or I just sprinkle ash at the base of the bush, stirring it slightly with the ground so as not to scatter.
Having chosen one of these methods, I also spray the entire aerial part of the rose with ash infusion. Only the concentration in this case increases: you need not 100, but 200 g of ash per bucket of water. Those who prefer natural remedies are more likely to opt for ash.
I think this is an excellent fertilizer, because in addition to potassium and phosphorus, it also contains other trace elements that are so necessary for plants.
I have been using this potassium and phosphorus supplement for several years now, and it has proven itself very well. But fertilizers with a high nitrogen content are not at all suitable for this period. Manure can be applied in early autumn, but not in October. I also focus on the weather.
If it is dry, then pour it over with ash infusion. And if it rains, then I just put the granules. During rains, spraying with ash infusion is useless, since it is immediately washed off.
