It would seem that the properties and capabilities of cement have long been known, but this material never ceases to amaze! Read the most detailed instructions on how to make unique flowerpots for the garden using cement mortar and dense textured fabric. Don't forget to like and subscribe to the channel!
What is needed for this
Of the materials you will need: cement grade M500, peat moss, perlite (you can use ordinary building sand), primer, paint, brushes, cellophane, waste oil. Any dense fabric can be the basis of the lawn. Old rugs, blankets, towels, burlap are perfect. The more textured the fabric, the more expressive the pattern will be in the flowerpot.
Equipment and tools required: a container for the solution; a stirrer (a mixer is needed for large flowerpots and flower beds); gloves; buckets or special coasters. It is best to use buckets as shapes. For large and non-standard flowerpots, special stands should be made.
Support forms
The manufacturing technology of these products implies the hardening of the fabric impregnated with cement mortar. To give the flowerpot its usual shape, you can simply throw the fabric over any bucket. The main thing is that the so-called matrix has a cone and the finished flowerpot can be easily removed.
But if you make non-standard products, you will need special stands. For example, to make a flower bed, you can throw a fabric soaked in solution over a flat bench. You will get an elegant oblong flowerbed in the form of a box. For a wider flower bed, you can use an old table as a matrix shape and throw fabric over it like a tablecloth.
For the manufacture of tall flowerpots, you will need special stands. They consist of a cross at the bottom, a pole and a cover at the top, which will be the bottom of the flowerpot. This stand can be compared to a backless bar stool. The lid (bottom of the flowerpot) is made in various shapes, but the most common are round and square.
How to do
The first stage is mixing the solution. To do this, you need to prepare a container, pour cement, perlite and peat moss into it. Proportions: 2 parts cement, 1 part peat moss, 1 part perlite or sand. Then all this must be thoroughly mixed until a homogeneous mass is obtained. Count the proportions in volume!
The basis for the product is a cloth, should be relatively clean, free of dust and dirt. The solution will not set if there are oily stains on it, including oil ones. The choice of capacity must also be approached thoroughly. Do not use barrels and cans of oil products and chemicals.
When the dry mix is ready, add water. When adding water, the solution must be thoroughly mixed: there should be no lumps or non-mixed areas in it. Add water and stir until the solution in consistency resembles liquid sour cream. The density must be such that the solution can be completely absorbed into the fabric.
Next, you need to put the fabric in the solution and soak it well. So to speak, arrange a kind of analogue of hand washing. But the solution does not need to be made too thick - it should show the texture of the fabric. Gloves must be worn during this work, as the cement causes dryness and damage to the skin.
Molding
The fabric impregnated with the solution must be draped over the matrix mold. The form must also be prepared for work. So that the flowerpot does not have to be torn off the bucket with great effort, the mold (bucket) must be greased with a thin layer of used oil. If you use wooden coasters, tables and benches, cover them with cellophane wrap and grease them with oil.
If it is difficult to find working off, you can prepare a composition from sticking from white spirit and sunflower oil by mixing in the proportion: 3 parts of oil to 1 part of white spirit. Apply the solution to the mold with a brush or foam sponge.
Next, the creative process begins: the hanging petals can be adjusted, given unusual shapes, for example: bends. But this must be done quickly - the solution is plastic within 15 minutes, then it begins to set.
Drying: no sun - use technology!
Further, when the form is fixed, you need to properly dry the flowerpot. At this stage, many make the mistake of exposing concrete products to dry in the sun. Concrete does not like drafts and sunlight. This evaporates moisture from the concrete, which turns it into a brittle material.
Many resources have information that the flowerpot can be dried in the sun and removed from the mold in a day. It is not right. If you do this, it will not last even a couple of months or it will crack when disbanded.
It is best to put the product in the shade and after three hours, when the hardening process begins, cover it with cellophane wrap. Moisture should not be allowed to erode quickly. Concrete doesn't dry - it matures.
It is necessary to remove the flowerpot from the mold after 2-3 days in warm weather and after 4-5 days if the temperature outside is below 10 degrees. After removing the flowerpot, it can be removed for 3-5 days under a canopy or indoors. When the product has settled a little, you can bring the appearance to the ideal - paint.
Painting
In order for the paint to lay down well and please the eye for a long time, the surface of the flowerpot must first be prepared - walk on it primer for mineral surfaces. Without a primer, the paint will fall off in one season.
The paint also needs to be selected for facade, resistant, specially designed for mineral surfaces! An excellent choice would be acrylic facade paint ФХ-024. Long-lasting in the harshest conditions glass-ceramic paint for mineral surfaces ФХ-043.
By the way, paint and primer must be purchased from one manufacturer. IN online store FORUMHOUSE you will acquire excellent quality primer for mineral surfaces, as well as many more paint and varnish products for repair and construction.
