Inexpensive nozzle for brushing wood on a grinder (angle grinder)
Brushed wood is a very beautiful surface. This is an imitation of a worn-out wooden product or simply giving a relief texture to a wooden surface. Soft fibers are removed from the surface, while hard ones remain and give relief. This technology is used in furniture and decorative elements:
Such a tree, covered with impregnations, glazes or decorative oils, looks even more impressive. Soft fibers are chosen with a special tool with a set of brushes: there are wire and nylon. And the devices themselves are factory-made:
The cost of such a tool: from 4 thousand. rub. In large industries, brushing (brush-grinding) machines are used. The cost of even desktop ones is from 60 thousand rubles.
There are other manufacturers on the market:
1. Mekkan MK 81206
2. Patriot 909
3. Instar EShM 16100
4. Wortex WS 1014S
5. Energomash UShM-1014P
Some craftsmen make their own attachments for powerful angle grinders for brushing their products. It is clear that you will not make tens of square meters for sale with them. But to process a tree of a small area is economically feasible.
I wrote about such homemade products here: Brushing wood. Making nozzles for a grinder with your own hands
In a nutshell. A shaft is made (milled), on which several disc wire grinding wheels are installed and tightened with a nut. The width of such a brush depends on the power of the angle grinder. Shaft drawing and view of angle grinder with brushes on it:
Next, inexpensive disk cord brushes are purchased, from 2 to 4 for medium power angle grinders:
It is desirable to have angle grinders with a speed regulator. If in work without a regulator, then you can quickly assemble it yourself.
Article: The speed controller for the grinder (angle grinder) from the dimmer. Costs 300 rubles. Just consider the power of the dimmer and angle grinder.
In these options, there is a golden mean in terms of costs - this is the purchase of a nozzle for a angle grinder for brushing:
This seller has four options for completing the nozzle:
- Shaft with M10 thread, keys and nut with washer for clamping brushes.
- Shaft with M14 thread, keys and nut with washer for clamping brushes.
- Shaft with M10 thread, keys, nut with washer for clamping brushes, protective cover with handle.
- Shaft with M14 thread, keys, nut with washer for clamping the brushes, protective cover with handle.
You can look at the photos of the kits by looking through them. Prices: 1211 RUB and 2185 rubles.
It is more expedient to purchase a nozzle with a casing, because it is a protection against dust that will fly from the brushes. It will not be comfortable to work without this protection.
The first two options are just a shaft, extension adapter. The kit also includes two keys for installation in the shaft groove. Without them, the discs will turn (or they will need to be pressed very hard, put washers).
The brush attachment must be purchased separately. This is about 800-900 rubles. A set of nylon brushes will cost significantly more. But they are not always necessary for the final polish. The surface will be sanded and wire brushed if the wood is dry. If you only want to achieve the perfect result, a glossy shine on the wood, then yes, you will need nylon discs.
Who bought a similar attachment - write in the comments about the use.
P.S. Despite the comments from readers in previous articles that each tool should used as intended - I continue a series of articles about attachments, rare discs that expand tool functionality.
The danger of the tool comes from careless and thoughtless use of it, from safety violations. Angle grinders, even with cutting discs for cutting metal, are an unsafe tool. If there is uncertainty about working with it, it is better not to work, replace with another tool.
A series of such articles is not a call to action, but only information about options for extending the tool's functionality. Whether to use it or not is up to you.
