Micro hydroelectric power station with a low-speed generator for power supply of a private house

In the sixth year, when writing a thesis, I had to visit different teachers and specialists. In one of the offices of the design bureau of the plant, I witnessed a workflow that amazed me: a specialist sat at a drawing board and manually drew a circuit board from about 200 elements. And before his eyes he had a schematic diagram of an electronic device (also a handmade drawing). For me it was like playing chess in my head against a fictional opponent.

It was at the end of 2000. Then there were already simple computer programs like the first versions of PCad, which allowed the machine to do everything - to lay out all the tracks, draw the board.

As I later learned, the specialist's name was Bazilevsky Alexander Borisovich. Associate professor at the time of the Siberian Aerospace Academy, inventor, has many patents. And I want to tell you about one of them.

Patent reference and short description of the generator device here

In short and in simple language, Alexander Borisovich designed in 1994. sealed flat low-speed generator. The blades were installed inside it, and the inductor, the stator - on the rim. The design made it possible to work in water. For rivers with a calm flow, it was developed. I do not know the power characteristics of the generator. But in the late 90s, there was no time for inventors with their concern for economy and for ordinary people. The inventors were ignored and simply forgotten.

Only the local river transport administration appreciated the invention, which had a problem with theft of batteries on buoys, buoys installed on the Yenisei (used for signal backlight). Local residents sailed up to them in boats and stole for non-ferrous metal. And there were 3500 of them along the river. One prototype was installed on the Yenisei in the area with. Galanino. This is where the story ended.

A note from the Krasnoyarsk newspaper about the invention and experimental implementation: http://www.krasrab.com/archive/2001/05/04/20/view_article

I also met students who contributed some ideas to this invention in their theses. Apparently, Alexander Borisovich acted as their diploma supervisor.

By design, this generator is similar to this model, only without a solid rear flange (water must pass freely through the blades).

In 2007 a dissertation on a similar topic was defended at SibFU: Low-speed end-face synchronous generator of autonomous power supply sources

I do not know if this is a continuation of the ideas of the inventor or plagiarism. Or maybe the author himself came to similar decisions.

So why such a long backstory? Imagine, for 26 years there has been a development that would allow anyone who lives by the river to have an autonomous power supply. A buoy is attached to an anchor at the bottom of the river (a small slab of reinforced concrete) through a cable, and under it on a depth of 2 m here is such a sealed, unattended low-speed synchronous generator or their bundle, battery. And several kilowatts of cable are supplied to your site all year round. It does not matter if the ice is on the river or it does not freeze as 300 km of the Yenisei below the Krasnoyarsk hydroelectric station.

Currently, there are small-sized synchronous motors, the so-called permanent magnet wheel motors, which are very similar in design to the models of synchronous generators of the 20th century:

The only difference is that the motor wheels (electromagnets) are controlled by the electronics (shaft position sensor (Hall sensor) and controller). And the motor-wheels are not sealed. They can also be used as generators if the controller allows.

I remembered about the Shkondin wheel motor. Who studied this topic, can you explain why its development is better than its Chinese counterparts? Judging by the video and the author's statements, his prototypes are superior in performance to their counterparts. Maybe his invention was bought or copied by Chinese companies long ago? Or another example: the Dayunov engine. Although it has the principle of an asynchronous motor with a combined star + delta winding.

If the ideas of the tightness of the underwater generator from the invention of Bazilevsky A.B. apply in wheel motor in mode generation with blades, then you can get a generator for MicroHPP for private consumers in a different line capacities.

Another example is Belashov's low-speed generator, MGB:

Type of generator, stator and characteristics of the Belashov generator. The information says that at a wind or water flow speed of 6 m / s, the generator power as in the photo will be just over 800 watts. Demonstration of development work:

One more difficulty is not excluded when introducing MicroHES. This is how the environmental authorities will react to this installation. The river is a conservation area with exclusion zones along the river. And here a technical installation is being installed on the river. In this case, the work of MicroHPP should be somehow regulated and technical specifications created.

I think that this idea is currently available for implementation only by Chinese manufacturers. They are already stamping installations for pressure head MicroHPPs for ice-free mountain rivers:

We have a huge river network. The energy issue in hard-to-reach places can be removed very easily and quickly. Give people a compact 5 kW micro-hydroelectric power plant, and some will even go to Chukotka with it.

The entire industry has followed the path of producing large generating units for large energy facilities. Essentially for monopolies. The private sector is viewed only as a consumer. And, after all, the private sector, when using micro-generating capacities, can also be a generator of electricity and sell kW to the general network. In some places it is even comparable to the capacity of a CHP. Because in the summer season, a private house almost does not consume electricity.
