The first module of the most powerful laser in the world was launched in Russia
At the All-Russian Scientific Research Institute, which is located in Sarov, the first module of the installation was put into operation, dubbed UFL-2M, which is currently the first laser in terms of power among all the others in the world.
The designed laser will be used to implement a whole series of experiments on controlled thermonuclear synthesis and research of previously unexplored properties of materials at extreme temperatures and extreme pressure.
Russia at the forefront of thermonuclear fusion research
The fact that the first installation module was successfully launched was reported by S. Garanin (deputy. Director for Laser Systems, VNIIEF) at the last session of the General Meeting of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

In addition, it was especially emphasized that the power of the installation is at least 1.5 more than the NIF laser installation (United States of America), which was previously considered the most powerful in the world.
Back in 2019, a special interaction chamber was assembled (a metal sphere with a total weight of 120 tons and a diameter of 10 m). And to date, all systems for ensuring the operability of the channels of the laser installation have already been installed and put into operation. But full-scale research is scheduled to begin in 2021.
Also, according to A. Likhachev, Sarov has every chance of transforming into a center of attraction for scientists from all over Russia who will be willing to work on the riddles of new physics using the most modern equipment. And also he (Serov) is quite capable of becoming a real cradle of theorists of the future.
