How we store seed potatoes for a better harvest than last year

Having moved to a country house from an apartment, you definitely want to lay out a garden, flower beds, a lawn near the house. And then comes the desire to establish a vegetable garden, so that fresh and healthy vegetables are available to the table without any surprises in their composition. That is, when preparing dishes from vegetables, the owners of the gardens know for sure that there is only what they themselves put on their beds. And, of course, the basis of the garden is potatoes, which on the Russian table are an integral part of many dishes.

We laid a potato field three years ago when we started building our house. Seed potatoes were bought from breeders who grow them. One variety - pink potatoes, turned out to be simply wonderful - smooth, oblong, very tasty and quickly cooking.

But we didn't like the second grade - the yellow potatoes fell apart during cooking and turned out to be watery. We refused it and took a white potato from friends, it gives an excellent harvest and is delicious.

Seeds are two-thirds of the condition for a good potato harvest. Therefore, they must be stored carefully, observing a number of conditions.

1. We select not the smallest seed potatoes, but the medium ones so that they do not degenerate.

2. After drying, we put it in boxes. At first they used wooden ones, in them it is well stored. But the boxes are heavy. Now we put them in plastic ones.

3. In boxes, we leave potatoes for seeds in the yard in the light for the maximum amount of time so that they begin to turn green. It is such a potato that will give the best harvest, will be strong and healthy. It is no longer possible to use it in food, a poison has formed in it - solanine.

4. Then, after a cold snap, we lower it in boxes into the cellar, where we put it against a warm wall that does not freeze and does not become covered with frost, and is not wet.

5. We constantly check that no rot or mold appears. But it is not worth "stirring" the seed potatoes once again, they should be kept alone.

6. Two weeks before the planting date, which falls around the end of May, we take the potatoes out of the pit and set them in the light so that they will sprout warm and in the light. If pulled too early, it will stretch. Therefore, there is no need to rush.

7. Before planting, spray with a liquid remedy for the Colorado potato beetle.

These simple rules allow you to grow potatoes not worse, but better than in the previous year.
