In winter, the tips of the leaves of domestic plants often dry out. I tell you how to save flowers in the simplest way
The most likely reason for the leaf tips to dry out in households in winter is dry air in the room. Due to the work of heating in the apartment, the humidity drops to 40-45%, while the comfortable indicator for plants (and people) is at the level of 55-65%. For different plants, I use several methods to raise the humidity of the air.
1. Spraying foliage.
I irrigate the crowns of flowers with warm water, especially those who love humid air: hibiscus, spathiphyllum, ficus, azalea, orchid, bromeliad, jasmine, fern.
For irrigation, I use only a fine sprayer. I work in the morning or in the evening, in cloudy weather, but not when the sun is active, so as not to cause burns to the foliage. I use thawed or filtered water to avoid lime deposits on the leaves.
2. Installation of open dishes with water.
Among the flowers that do not like wetting the leaves (violets, begonias, gloxinia), I place wide bowls of water filled with expanded clay. The water gradually evaporates from the pot, increasing the air humidity.
A table fountain will be a good replacement for such bowls. It will not only decorate your home garden, create a relaxing atmosphere, but also effectively fill the atmosphere with moisture.
Following the example of some advanced florists, you can get an ultrasonic air humidifier.
Other causes of leaf tips dry out in winter
In addition to dry air, indoor flowers in winter can suffer from root rot and pests. In both cases, the leaves begin to dry out, starting from the tips, gradually dying off completely.
The root rot is caused by improper watering:
· Use of cold and hard water;
· Frequent or abundant watering.
Excess nitrogen fertilizer contributes to the development of rot.
I save such a plant by transplanting it into a new clean substrate, free from pathogens. I cut off the affected plant roots and keep them in Fitosporin solution for half an hour.
At home, flowers infect pests that suck the sap of the plant: aphids, mealybugs, whiteflies. If you look closely at the leaves, colonies of small parasites can be found on the petioles or on the underside. By sucking the sap, they weaken the plant, causing the leaves to turn yellow.
I fight insects with a folk remedy. I make a soap solution (1 tsp. l. grated laundry soap for 1 glass of water) and wipe all the leaves and shoots of the flower. I do this every 3-4 days for 3 weeks.
An indirect reason for the yellowing of the leaves may be the lack of space in the pot for the root system. Remember how long ago the plant was transplanted into a new container, and is it time to change the pot and soil.
