The disc is installed on this grinder in 1 second. Quick release mechanism for angle grinders
Changing discs on a grinder (angle grinder) is not a very convenient process. Especially if you have to do it often. If there is a lot of work with frequent replacement of cutting discs or alternating a disc for metal with a cord brush. In order not to look for the key (when the disk is jammed) - it is tied with electrical tape to the power cord. On the drill, the key to the chuck is also tied.
You can also do without a wrench if you tighten the nut by hand and tighten it by turning the disc when locking the gearbox. And unscrew in the same way: clamp the mechanism with the locking button and manually turn the disk. So that the disk can be unscrewed after work - I put a cardboard gasket under the nut:
Some power tool manufacturers produce these spacers separately (second slide).
But well-known brands have gone even further. They began to produce a line of angle grinders with a quick-change mechanism. The mechanism is called X-lock:

The mechanism is close-up and in the process of fixing the disc. The mechanism itself will not accidentally open during operation
I snapped the disk onto the angle grinder, after work pulled the red latch on the angle grinder body - the disk was removed. As you can see, the assortment of disks is large, but they are suitable only for certain models of angle grinders.
The first power tool manufacturer to use this quick release disc system was Bosch. And the power tool in its line with the X-lock system has the GWX index. Review about one of the models:
The disc cannot be installed with the wrong side on the angle grinder, it is impossible to snap it off by mistake during operation. The cost of the disks is the same as for ordinary branded ones. Here the manufacturer did not increase the price, because aims to promote this line as much as possible. And this design has already been adopted by other manufacturers. More about them later. LBM with such a system with only 125 mm discs. I think Bosch is working out the technology and soon there will be larger X-lock discs for more powerful angle grinders. Disk cost:
X-lock discs are even on sale for grinding. For them, an additional lid is included in the kit. Made so that during grinding the disc retainer does not move away and it does not fall off. The lid is recessed and does not interfere with work. By the way, discs from the X-lock system fit a conventional angle grinder with a washer.
With a similar disc changer design, Makita model:
Whoever uses cut-off and other discs of only well-known brands, then when buying (replacing) angle grinders, it may make sense to look at these models with the X-lock system. I think that soon this trend (as they say) will be picked up by other manufacturers. We will see such a tool in the middle price segment.
In the next article I will show two models of quick-locking nuts for standard angle grinders. Which, not only will speed up the installation of the disk, but also increase the safety at work, tk. the disc does not bite.
