Why multivitamins aren't good for everyone
And at the pharmacy, I often hear talk about the benefits of multivitamins. Some believe that thanks to these pills, you can improve health, balance nutrition, and prevent chronic diseases. Some people believe that consuming vitamins without a doctor's recommendation can harm the body.
I decided to find out who was right. I started looking for information on the Internet, asked the doctors. As a result, I found out that there is no consensus about the benefits or harms of vitamins. But some aspects are worth paying attention to.
Dosage
The opinion that vitamins can be consumed in any quantity is erroneous. Excess drugs adversely affect human health. So the amount of vitamins should not exceed the dosage indicated by the attending physician.
But not only the dosage should be paid attention. Unscrupulous manufacturers do not always indicate the exact amount of nutrients. If there are less of them than indicated on the package, then this is not as scary as their excess.
Who is at risk
I learned that there are groups of people who are contraindicated in vitamins:
- Today, pregnant women are prescribed vitamins by a doctor. You should not choose supplements on your own, as this can cause a fetal defect.
- People who have a lot of healthy foods in their diet rich in various micro and macro elements should not abuse vitamins in order not to exceed the daily requirement.
- Smokers are at risk. They should not take a multivitamin that contains vitamin A or beta-carotene. They often provoke the growth of cancer cells.
- If the body has enough iron. That vitamins with this mineral are contraindicated and dangerous to health.
- A high-vitamin B multivitamin is not recommended for people over 50. According to statistics, this group of people, if they consume this vitamin, dies more often. The causes of death cannot yet be explained.
Is it possible to avoid harm
The deficiency of some vitamins does not have to be replenished with multivitamins. They may well be replaced by conventional food. You should not buy vitamins without a doctor's examination. In order not to run into a deception, it is better to buy vitamin products in pharmacies.
I learned all this well, as well as the fact that multivitamins cannot improve my health or my mood. I strictly follow the nutritional balance of my family. Fresh and high quality food has much more benefits.
