Why are laying hens forced to jump behind a suspended head of cabbage: preserving egg production in winter

Chickens stop laying for many reasons, and one of them, oddly enough, is obesity. Active weight gain occurs in winter, when poultry walking is limited: movement becomes less, and the diet is the same. This leads to obesity of the oviduct and a decrease in egg production. How to deal with this - read on.

If the bird has become large and heavy, and the laying of eggs is insufficient, it means that it is time to take action. In such cases, people go to a fitness club, and experienced poultry farmers make their pets a kind of simulators.

Method one

To avoid wasting feed, you need to get the chickens to move as much and actively as possible. The first method is as follows - you need to pour the grain directly onto the bedding. The bird starts looking for food, picking in the litter. It takes strength and energy. If this method does not lead to the expected result, you should move on to more radical measures.

Method two

The method requires hanging cabbage or zucchini forks over the heads of chickens. This "simulator" will make the bird jump to nip off a tidbit. The energy for such actions is colossal. Chickens not only lose weight, returning to their previous egg production rates, but also somehow have fun.

Many will argue that chickens do not eat cabbage. But no, they still eat! If they haven't tried this plant before, then you need to give it a little getting used to: two or three days is enough. This is the same as with any supplementary feed. When they get used to cabbage, they will start to leave only stubs.

How to hang a head of cabbage and how much cabbage to give

The easiest way is to take a corkscrew, tie a rope to it and screw it all the way into the stump. Attach the rope to the ceiling. Select the height so that the hens have to jump for a meal. Often you shouldn't give cabbage - once a week is enough.
