What absolutely can not be done when planting Petunia
Despite my many years of experience in breeding home and garden flowers, I could not grow petunia for two years.
I tried different methods and applied different methods, but the most that I was able to do was to grow not very successful seedlings that did not take root on the site.
This year, I finally achieved the desired result: my petunia grew and bloomed in a violent color, not only in pots, but also in the country. I will share my findings, what I did wrong.
How I grew seedlings
The most important thing is good seedlings. I did everything according to the rules:
· Selected the necessary soil and container;
I tried to plant the seeds early (January - early February) so that the seedlings could get stronger;
· Did not cover the container with anything, so as not to create a greenhouse effect;
• when planting, she deepened the seeds a little into the ground and sprinkled them with earth a little, believed that they would hatch faster this way;
· Watered from a watering can with a fine mesh.
Seedlings appeared, but the stems were so thin that even a drop of water from the watering can made it lie on the ground. The sprouts developed in height, but the stem did not increase in volume, it seemed that it was about to break under the weight of two leaves.
What did I do wrong
This year I did a little differently and my seedlings grew strong, viable, it was visible by eye. It turns out that every little thing matters. I realized what I was doing wrong.
· Ground. Petunia is a delicate plant. It needs an appropriate primer. I bought it in a store, it is made on the basis of peat. But this year I added a little more river sand, as a baking powder: the mixture, apparently, went very well.
· Landing date. I moved it closer to spring for a month. She began to plant seeds by the end of February, at the beginning of March: daylight hours increase, seedlings grow faster, as they reach for the light.
· Place for germination. This year I covered the container with seeds with foil and put it in a warm place: I have a warm floor in the kitchen, it can be near the radiator;
· Landing. For the seeds, I made small indentations, a little less than half a thimble, moistened them with water. There is no need to do volumetric holes and sprinkle with earth, since light breaks through them with difficulty.
· Watering. I moistened seedlings from a watering can, and this year I added water to the root. A 10-cubic syringe was very useful for this. Often I do not moisturize as the soil dries.
The seedlings turned out to be excellent. Shared with neighbors. It would seem that nothing striking in the care has changed, so in little things: I improved the soil, changed the method of irrigation, chose the right layer of soil for deepening, and the result is obvious.
