If you blow from a plastic window, do not rush to call the master, perhaps the locking mechanism does not tightly press the sash to the frame. About adjustment
Almost all plastic windows with modern fittings are equipped with adjustable sash clamping force. The adjustment is carried out by eccentrics or, as they are also called, by adjusting pins.
The position of the eccentric affects the pressing force of the sash and, consequently, the tightness of the window. The adjustment can be conditionally divided into three positions: weak, medium and strong clamps. Usually from the factory, the locking mechanisms of the windows come with a preset middle sash hold-down.
Important! On the Internet, you can find tips for converting windows to winter and summer modes. “Experienced craftsmen with twenty years of experience” tell and show how to switch windows in summer to summer mode, and, accordingly, in winter to winter. There are no such modes! These tips can only harm: lead to damage to the mechanism and wear of the seal!
If it starts to blow from the windows, then you can increase the clamping force of the sash. If there is no blowing from under the sash, then it is not necessary to twist the eccentrics, rearranging the locking mechanism to the pseudo-winter mode!
When to use pressure adjustment
It is necessary to strengthen the clamping of the shutters in four cases:
- New windows have a skewed frame - broken geometry. This creates a gap between the sash and the frame. It can be removed by tightening the clamp. But this does not help in all cases!
- The factory made a mistake with the calculations and made the sash slightly smaller. It happens! As a result, the overlap of the rubber bands on the frame is minimal. In this case, you can press the elastic bands harder and, perhaps, the problem will go away.
- Manufacturers have chosen the wrong seal for the fittings and window profile. In this case, strengthening the sash clamping can solve the blowing problem.
- During the operation, the rubber bands sagged, lost elasticity and, as a result, the window lost its tightness. Here it is also possible to eliminate blowing by adjusting the locking mechanism.
It is necessary to weaken the clamping force in one case:
- The mechanisms work tightly, and the window handle turns only with a noticeable effort. Or the window closes very badly. The weakening of the clamping force on the sash will help here.
How to check the tightness of a window
In winter, it is clear - it will blow from under the sash. To check this in the summer, insert a sheet of A4 paper between the frame and the sash, close the window and try to pull this sheet out. If the sheet is torn, then the tightness is good and the windows do not need to be adjusted. When the paper is removed and the sheet remains intact, the pressure needs to be increased.
How to make an adjustment
Clean the frame, sash, seals from dirt. Lubricate the locking mechanisms of the window. Suitable for lubrication: special oil for window mechanisms or ordinary engine oil. There are holes at the end of a door or window indicating where to fill the oil. It is better to apply the lubricant with an oil can or a syringe.
The gum of the seal must also be treated with silicone grease or technical petroleum jelly. A greased seal will not crack, stick to the frame, and last longer.
Next, we move on to adjusting the journal. The trunnions are round and oval. The oval is adjusted with pliers. Round ones are adjustable with a 4 mm hexagon. This is usually the way to screw furniture euro screws. Some eccentrics have a slot for a flat screwdriver.
There are usually three eccentrics on the window on the handle side, and two more on the hinge side. There are four eccentrics on the door at the end on the side of the door handle, but there may be more of them. It depends on the manufacturer.
Round eccentrics have a mark - usually a dot. From the factory, the windows come with an average pressure adjustment. This means that the point / mark is at the top or bottom - it does not matter. The difference between the positions is 1 mm. There is a difference of 2 mm between strong and weak clamps.
If you need to tighten up the pressure, turn the eccentric point towards the sealing gum. When you need to loosen the clamping force, set the eccentric with a point from the rubber band.
For oval trunnions, the adjustment is different. When the oval is vertical it is a weak clamp. Oval obliquely at 45 degrees - medium sash force. The oval in the horizontal position is the maximum downforce.
