About annoying mistakes in growing pepper seedlings: they do not allow to grow profitable plants

Flaming fireworks, comrades vegetable growers!

Today on the garden agenda - insidious mistakes in growing bell pepper seedlings. Summer residents admit them out of ignorance and... lose their harvest.

Indeed, it depends on the first two months of the seedlings' life what the future plants will be: strong and giving a good harvest or weak, upsetting with a meager harvest. And this time young peppers spend in our homes under vigilant control. Let's figure it out: forewarned is forearmed!

A question for lighting

In growing pepper seedlings, bright light is indispensable.

When creating conditions for the growth of a particular culture, we must be guided by one question: "What does this plant need?" Leaving in the background "How convenient is it for me?"

Pepper in terms of creating supplementary lighting is a special culture. She, like tomatoes, loves bright light. But he prefers short daylight hours: about 10 hours, maximum - 12 hours. If you shine more, then the seedlings inhibit growth and become vulnerable to stress and disease.

For this reason, it is not recommended to keep seedlings of peppers and tomatoes in the same area. Plants have different requirements for the duration of the daily light. Someone alone will suffer.

Wrong landing dates

Be sure to read the instructions on the seed bag

Unconscious citizens do not pay attention to the peculiarities of the varieties and sow them in one fell swoop. As a result, by the time of planting in a permanent place, some plants are not yet ready for a radical change in conditions and then get sick for a long time. Others have already outgrown: their roots have long felt in a cramped seedling container and take root for a long time in a new place. The result, comrades, is sad: both do not give maximum yields.

It is easy to calculate the sowing date of bell peppers for seedlings. Count the number of days corresponding to the growing season of the variety from the date of planting to a permanent place (when usually suitable conditions occur in your region):

  • early - 65 days;
  • mid-season - 70 days:
  • late - 80 days.

And subtract another conditional 10 days for the emergence of seedlings.

For example, I plant peppers in my greenhouse every year on May 15th. Then I sow the early varieties on March 11, mid-season ones on March 6, and I take the seeds of the late varieties at the end of February.

Dangerous dives

Pickling pepper seedlings. Requires neatness and a firm hand

Bell pepper seedlings do not tolerate picking well. If you disturb the root system, the plants begin to slow down for 2 or even 3 weeks.

For pepper seedlings, careful handling is more suitable than picking in the literal sense of the word. In the process of work, you need to try not to damage the roots.

Some summer residents immediately sow pepper in large pots. But this method is uneconomical: you never know half will not rise, and the soil will stand in vain. Therefore, comrade, the best option is: 1 neat transplant in the phase of full unfolding of cotyledon leaves or the appearance of 2 true leaves.
