Eternal "rake", or what mistakes Should be avoided when planting tomato seedlings

click fraud protection

Growing a gorgeous harvest of tomatoes begins with a full-fledged work on the cultivation and planting of their seedlings. And it is extremely important in the period when the vegetable garden is filled with "green tenants" not to make some mistakes, the consequences of which, which are difficult for the harvest, I was convinced of from personal experience!

Refusal to harden

Even if the variety is known to be unpretentious to weather conditions, early adaptation should not be neglected! Moreover, it is necessary to harden it for planting not only in open ground, but also in a greenhouse.

They begin to do this in 2 weeks, bringing tomato greens to a temperature of +8... 10 ° C, at first for 1 hour and gradually bringing it to a day. Tomatoes without hardening bear fruit later and less abundantly, more susceptible to diseases.

Inaccurate removal from containers

The point is that the earthen lump of each plant must be thoroughly moistened. Therefore, the seedlings are watered half an hour before transferring to a permanent place - only under this condition it is possible with almost 100% accuracy to remove it from the former cramped "house" without damaging the root system.

Late feeding

It is a well-known truth that tomato seedlings are fed soon after planting. But few people know that young plants need nutrients even before they are on the site. Personally, for feeding tomato seedlings at home, I give preference to means introduced by the foliar method. It is important to emphasize that such advance feeding acts on tomatoes as follows:

· Accelerates adaptation;

· Strengthens the immune system against diseases;

· Activates the development of the root system;

· Promotes early flowering.

In my opinion, you need to feed tomatoes 1 week before planting in the garden.

Close landing

Many gardeners strive to save space on the site - there is so much to grow! But categorically it is impossible to reduce the distances recommended for a particular tomato variety. The fact is that with this approach, the plants will be almost indifferent - how generously they are watered and fertilized.

Because in the cramped space, their root system will not be able to fully develop, which means that the above-ground part will also suffer. Plus, in thickened plantings, tomatoes suffer from a lack of sun, high humidity.

That theoretically, can provoke a lot of destructive diseases and create favorable conditions for insect pests.
