Every year, electronics are becoming smarter, and therefore more expensive, because manufacturers add special modules for the so-called Internet of Things, so that ordinary users can remotely use them to rule.

Singaporean scientists decided to approach this issue from a different angle and decided to make smart sockets themselves. According to them, this will not only save up to 60% of electricity consumption, but also reduce the final the cost of the electrical appliances themselves, because manufacturers will not need to mount additional modules for systems smart home.

What is known about the new development

This system of dramatically smarter outlets is known by the acronym (SEOS) and was invented by a team of engineers from the National University of Singapore. It includes a whole network of "smart" faceplates that are simply mounted in place of old ones, as well as special NFC stickers attached to the plugs of electrical appliances in your home. And all these elements are connected into a single network via Wi-Fi to a central server.

How it all works

So when a plug with an NFC sticker is inserted into a smart socket, the information is read and the device is identified by the unique code of the device. Further, the server searches for all technical information about the device and includes constant monitoring.

From now on, through a special application, you can enable or disable this device. And thus, it will be completely de-energized and not in standby mode. Therefore, the current consumption will be zero.

In addition, if the system detects that the consumed current exceeds the reference characteristics, then the device will automatically turn off. The system also allows you to configure the work of outlets on a schedule, which will allow you to program the inclusion and shutdown of some electrical appliances.

All is well - how much does it cost

Yes, the system looks attractive, but it should be affordable and affordable. So, according to the data provided by the university itself, the installation of SEOS will cost about 80 evergreen US dollars per outlet.

Yes, it is expensive, but according to the same calculations of the institute, such sockets will save up to 60% of consumption electricity, as well as savings will be achieved due to cheaper electrical appliances that are not equipped with smart elements.

Well, let's wait until this system becomes available on the market and the first reviews of people who install imagine such a system in the house, and then it will be possible to return to the consideration of the question: whether to buy this for yourself or not?
