Rules and techniques that I have been using for more than a year. The strawberry yield increases 2-3 times without any problems
Everyone in our family is very fond of strawberries. Previously, no matter what I did, I managed to collect only a small basket during the season. It was not even convenient in front of the children, I was busy in the beds all spring, and could not pamper me with homemade berries.
But experience is a great thing. It turned out that not expensive varieties and excellent seedlings help to increase the yield, but skillful care.
1. Even in the fall, you need to carefully check all the bushes, remove diseased and dried leaves. The soil between the bushes must be dug up so that the root system can breathe.
2. With the onset of spring, you need to make sure that the soil on the strawberry beds does not dry out. It should be watered once a week with warm water. As soon as the flowers and the first berries appear, you need to try to water so that water does not fall on the ovary.
Watering should be continued all summer long! The forces for the future harvest are laid back in the fall; you cannot leave the beds to dry out after harvesting. This was my biggest mistake when I first started growing strawberries.
3. If it is not possible to frequently visit the summer cottage, it is better to cover the land in the row spacing with a film. The weeds will not take nutrients from the strawberries and the soil will not dry out.
At the end of summer, this film must be removed so that the soil rested. In the spring, before applying the film, the soil must be loosened. The method is not tricky, but the yield will increase several times.
Instead of film, you can use straw, pine needles or sawdust.
4. Do not allow the bushes to grow a lot of foliage. All forces will go into greenery, the harvest will be less. As soon as the ovary starts to turn red, it is better to remove half of the leaves. Pay particular attention to the leaves that interfere with the ripening of the berries. In direct sunlight, the berries will ripen faster and will be sweeter. In addition, less crops will rot in the shade.
5. No need to plant a single strawberry variety. The more varieties there are in the garden, the higher the yield.
6. After treating the strawberries with a pest repellent, it is advisable to cover the bushes with a film for a couple of hours. The effect will be many times better.
7. In autumn, strawberry bushes need to be sprinkled with earth a little, insulating the roots. In the spring, carefully clean the ground.
8. In the spring, it is imperative to remove a couple of centimeters of the upper ground from the garden. The root system will warm up better, and at the same time the larvae of pests that hibernated in the soil will be removed.
9. And one more observation. You cannot plant strawberries on the ground where tomatoes or potatoes grew last year. Even the treatment of strawberry rhizomes with a solution of potassium permanganate will not save plants from diseases that suffered from previous crops.
There are many subtleties, but the effort is worth it. For several years now, my whole family has been enjoying homemade strawberries in summer, and in winter we enjoy drinking compotes from harvested homemade harvest.
