TOP 7 most delicious and unusual pumpkins with detailed descriptions and photos
I have been growing different varieties of pumpkins for over 10 years. I want to offer you my TOP 7 most delicious and unusual pumpkins. And I will dwell on the amazing Fitcephalia pumpkin, which is new to me, which simply struck me on the spot with its uniqueness and the longest shelf life (up to 3 years).
Variety Butternut
The variety belongs to the varieties of butternut squash (Cucurbita moschata). The ideal size is 15-20 cm in length. The use is varied (often juices), but baking in the oven according to this "scenario" is becoming the most fashionable:
- wash,
- cut in length,
- take out the seeds with a spoon,
- put in a variety of fillings,
- bake.
Delicious baked halves are served on the table.
Nakedseed
This pumpkin variety has shellless seeds. Very productive. This variety tends (not often, in very rare cases) to "return" to the usual form with shell seeds. Such individual plants are immediately visible when an elongated ovary appears on them, like a squash. Such plants must be removed immediately. Fruits in which the seeds without shell are round, large.
Pipian Squash (or Silver Pumpkin)
A super ornamental pumpkin seed variety with large tasty seeds that have a silvery edging. Small pumpkins (1.5-2kg) have a very decorative look and can be stored for a long time.
Squash Gelber (English Custard)
Large yellow Patisson, with a dense texture. The pulp is delicious.
Mayan pumpkin
An ancient variety that we supposedly inherited from the Mayan tribes. On a huge liana, many small pumpkins of a very decorative, authentic shape are tied. As for me, the pulp of this variety is nothing interesting in taste. But the decorativeness of these pumpkins is simply transcendental.
Chestnut pumpkin
Portion (small) pumpkin from France with thin skin. The pulp is mealy, has the consistency of puree and a tangible flavor of chestnut. Can persist for a long time.
Fitcephaly (fig-leaved pumpkin)
A variety of pumpkin that is significantly different from all other pumpkin varieties. It is not pollinated. The fruit looks more like a watermelon with a uniform white pulp and black seeds. The plant is branched and fruitful, the fruits are stored for a very long time.
I grew a Fitsephalia pumpkin this year for the first time, and still have not figured out how to approach this beauty (and she is really beautiful in appearance, very bright) in terms of consumption. In the near future I will look for information and will conduct culinary experiments. What will come of this, I will tell you, and maybe I will show you!
Fycephaly lies for a very long time, even 2-3 years. Contains a lot of pectin! And it is also perfect for grafting watermelon, melon on it... and cucumber.
