"Why not all housewives know how a single-lever mixer works" - everything is very simple
I especially met such a situation before, when people changed the mixers with two handles familiar to them for a new curiosity. And now I see this, but it's mostly, when the mistresses are in years. Always after installation, I ask you to use a new thing to make sure that everything is clear, otherwise there were cases I had to return to explain.
As it happens, the woman opens the lever, then closes it, moves it to another position, and opens it again, just like on a gearbox. When I explained that it was not necessary to do this, not everyone understood.
What's happening
I think that this is from the impossibility to imagine, the process, I will try to explain. The mixer is equipped with two hot and cold water connections, and the cartridge controls everything.
When the tap is closed (handle down), the inlets are closed and no water flows.
When the lever is turned to one side and open (the lever is up), it opens, one hole in it and water rushes.
When in the middle position, hot and cold water is mixed in the mixer chamber.
When disassembled, it can be seen that the lever moves the ceramic plate, which, in a certain order, opens and closes the holes, controlling the flow of water. Now I hope it became clearer.
It is important when connected to a gas water heater, so the water cannot be mixed. The lever must be fully open towards the hot water supply, the temperature is set on the column itself!
