Couldn't grow decent seedlings of petunia for 4 years. And it was 3 mistakes

Then it turned out that petunia is an unpretentious and noble plant. No tricks, expensive fertilizing and endless observations are needed: the seedlings grow beautifully on their own. If you don't bother her.

The first mistake was choosing the wrong soil. Just think, it becomes the destroyer of any seedlings, no matter how good the care is. I regretted the money for the purchased potting mix, picking up land from the garden. By the time the plant has a pair of true leaves, half or two-thirds of the seedlings have died for no reason. How decimated!

The land from the garden is too heavy for the growth of seedlings of flower crops. The roots in it cannot breathe. I was pleasantly surprised to plant a petunia in a regular high peat seedling potting mix flavored with fertilizer and dolomite flour. It is inexpensive - 50 rubles per 10 liters, and the difference is pleasantly surprising, comrades.

The second mistake lay in excessive care of the seedlings. I made sure that the soil in the container with the hatched seedlings was always wet. Well, how, what if these sissies dry up? Let them drink more.

From such a caring care, the sissies showed a fig. At best, they were sitting still, not developing. At worst, they disappeared from the black leg. A swarm of midges hovered over my beloved crops, attracted by rotting roots.

Always wet ground is always stagnant water. With all the consequences: fungal diseases, including black leg and decay of the root system. The latter has no incentive to branch out looking for water. Therefore, everyone felt better when I stopped arranging a swamp-swamp in the container.

I learned the rule of good soil and stopped watering the seedlings 2 times a day. Fine! Petunia began to survive and even tolerate a dive perfectly. Let me remind you that you need to do it as soon as 4 real sheets appeared.

But take a look at the photo above. Who cares about the petunia lash? There is no beauty in it! Of course, I have come across recommendations for the formation of a bush. But... What a pity to touch young plants!

Comrade, pity in growing seedlings is a harmful surplus. Feel free to throw out weak seedlings, because until the end of summer they will lose to plants that have shown themselves to be strong since childhood.

Feel free to cut off the top of the petunia over the 3rd pair of true leaves (6th leaves). Under normal conditions, they appear after 1.5 months from the sowing date. Immediately after pinching, give nitrogen feeding on the leaf - and after a few days you will see how the blade of grass turns into a lush ball.
