My neighbor is jealous of my tomato germination. But I don't mind
And again a fiery salute, comrades vegetable growers! Today on the agenda is a clever "heat shock" technique that increases the germination of tomato seeds.. After all, the time has come to give up all your business and rush headlong for bags, soil and containers.
This manipulation is especially useful for stale seeds and seed from manufacturers of dubious quality, to which I include all cheap bags. Already burned.
And other, more decent seeds, the procedure will not hurt. And it will help plants not only germinate in a large number of units, but also accelerate the growth of seedlings in the first week of their life.
Preparatory work
Although the technique itself is as simple as five kopecks. Let us, comrades, at least try to do everything right.
- Discard pacifiers. Stir 1 teaspoon of salt (not baking soda!) In a glass of boiled water, add the seeds and leave for 5 minutes. Healthy - will fall to the bottom, healthy, but dry - will be saturated with moisture during this time and will also fall to the bottom, pacifiers will float up and go to the garbage.
- Soak tomato seeds for half an hour in a weak potassium permanganate solution. In the language of precise instructions, the recipe sounds like this: 1 g per 100 ml, in practice - a slightly pink solution. Then rinse and dry a little.
Disinfection of seeds BEFORE heat treatment is important, comrade. Because in the coming days, we will be keeping the seed in cold and damp conditions, which can untie the hands of mold and rot. Potassium permanganate will not leave harmful fungi a chance to deprive us, decent gardeners, of tomatoes.
Heat Shock technology: when temperature contrast plays into our hands
Refrigerate the seeds for a few days, but at least 3 days. In general, I always keep all the seeds on the shelf of the general chamber and enjoy life.
Then soak the seeds in clean water for another half hour so that they are saturated with moisture. Now we need to put them in a bag - for example, a zip with a fastener or a regular plastic one. AND... put it on the battery for 12 hours.
If the battery fries so that it is impossible to hold your hand, then put plywood, cardboard, magazine on it, and only then - a bag of seeds. Or - hang on a pipe.
I leave the seeds like this overnight, and in the morning I start sowing right away. The contrast of cold and warmth, coupled with high humidity, will stimulate growth and enhance the nutrients of each seed. Germination - increases, seedlings - grow by leaps and bounds. Delov something!
Growing tomato seedlings? Put "Thumbs up" in response, comrade!
