We prepare peonies in early spring for the new season. How to feed them so that they bloom with lush caps. I share my experience
Peony care should be started in early spring. In June, they show all their beauty. What events need to be held in March-April (after the snow melts, the appearance of sprouts, depending on the region) so that the peonies bloom luxuriously in summer?
Cleaning old shoots
The peony bush should be cleaned of the remnants of dry shoots, since various pests and infections could overwinter on them. If you didn't do this in the fall, then remove the old stems in the spring.
It is also common to see snails under mulch. You need to remove old shoots, leaves and weeds carefully so as not to damage new shoots.
Loosening the land around the bush and watering
After harvesting plant residues and leaves, it is necessary to loosen around the peony bush, make sides so that the water does not slide down the sides during watering. The roots of an adult plant go deep into the ground (up to 1.5 meters). Therefore, at least 3-4 buckets of water should be poured under the bush.
How to feed
After the peonies are watered, you need to fertilize. For this purpose, ammonium nitrate in the amount of 1 tablespoon per bucket of water is suitable (during early spring, more nitrogen fertilizers are required to build up the green mass).
You can also add a little potassium permanganate or ash to the solution as a potassium supplement. Potassium permanganate in the same turn will disinfect the soil. Ash contains all the elements necessary for plant growth, except nitrogen. It promotes the bright and lush bloom of peonies.
If you have some kind of organic matter (manure, compost), then you can mulch the peony bush with it, stepping back from the center of the plant 10-15 cm so as not to burn it. Due to this material, moisture will be retained longer, and organics will gradually feed this flower culture.
3 weeks after the first feeding, you need to carry out the second feeding, but you no longer need to add nitrogen fertilizers. You will need to apply a complex fertilizer, which includes potassium, phosphorus, trace elements.
If you care for peonies from early spring, then you will undoubtedly achieve their beautiful and lush bloom in June.
