I am telling you how to rejuvenate Strawberries without replanting them, using chasing. The harvest will then double.
Surely many have heard that strawberries need to be rejuvenated once every 4 years, i.e. separate the bushes and transplant to another place. If this is not done, then the yield will become poor, and the berries will be smaller.
I did that all the time. Later I heard that it is possible to rejuvenate strawberries also without a tedious transplant, using the technique of minting.
What is chasing?
Embossing is a complete cutting of a strawberry bush at the same level as the ground, capturing the "heart". In place of the former bush, only a straight stump should remain. It is better to do this work with a simple pointed pruner. Well, either with a knife or, in extreme cases, with a hoe.
Strawberry rejuvenation procedure
The direct process of rejuvenating strawberries with the help of chasing is simple. Only the main thing is to do it in a timely manner. Almost all people confuse this procedure with ordinary pruning of bushes.
However, chasing is done differently. With this method, the bush is trimmed along with the ground, capturing the heart.
Some gardeners perform chasing with a sharpened knife, but I advise you to use an ordinary sharp pruner for this.
In the course of chasing, I take a strawberry bush and completely cut it off under the spine, grabbing the upper part of the heart. After carrying out this procedure, only small hemp should remain above the plane of the ground. And I remove the cut green mass with a rake, and then put it in the compost pit.
After embossing, I irrigate the soil at the place of the bush with a solution of manganese or iodine, which I make in the ratio: 1 teaspoon of the preparation for 10 liters of water. At the very end of the procedure, I sprinkle the cut-off places with wood ash.
Care for minted beds is no different from the usual: I irrigate strawberries, fertilize and remove weeds. After a few days, the stumps will be dark. After another 14 days, young sockets will appear in their place. Moreover, often the largest number of them grows than it was before the minting.
In addition to the sockets, after a similar procedure, the strawberry root will also be renewed - additional lateral roots will begin to appear on it. The basic rule is that it is necessary to mint the bush no later than half of August, when the main berry collection is completed. Then, by the first days of October, good young bushes will have time to appear, which will easily endure the winter.
Important! After the minting procedure, some bushes may not grow. Consider this is due to natural selection. Apparently, they were weak or unhealthy. From now on, I rejuvenate strawberries exclusively in this way. As a result, there are few worries, but the harvest is big.
