I don't understand how people manage to break plastic dowels for insulation? I am telling you how I hammered them into concrete with an ordinary hammer.

It seems that I didn’t have any experience with this case, but even though I didn’t "try", I could not break a plastic nail. Can someone teach me?

Friends, greetings to all. This story is about another example of the fact that you should not rely 100% on someone else's experience... Especially if it is described in a review for some product 😁.

I came across this when choosing dowels for insulation.

In general, I have already used dowels with plastic nails when I insulated the foundation of my house.

I don't understand how people manage to break plastic dowels for insulation? I am telling you how I hammered them into concrete with an ordinary hammer.

There I fastened the EPS sheets in the upper part, and did not get into the concrete, but into the wall from the aerated block. And then I did not think, these plastic nails will break or not? Aerated concrete is aerated concrete ...

But with the insulation of the concrete floor, it is a completely different matter.

"It's not for nothing that they generally sell dowels with a metal tip." I thought.

✅ And at the same time, the thought came to mind: "what will happen to plastic if you try to hammer it into concrete?"

Plus, in reviews of plastic dowels, many write stories that half of the nails break when hammered.

But what confused me about metal nails is that they are iron.

And the reason is that these steel rods will be cold bridges in the insulation. Of course, in the total amount of insulation, this will be insignificant, but still ...

So the all-plastic mount won for me

✔ and in thermal conductivity

✔ and in price

✔ but with durability, I decided to take a chance.

And to my surprise, I did not lose.

After I hammered literally from 10-20 dowels, I did not understand how they can be broken at all?

I attached a 100 mm thick EPSP to a concrete slab, using a 120 mm dowel. When making a hole in the concrete, I tried not to drill too hard, and several times did not drill a little, and the dowel almost went all the way.

So, in attempts to hammer this plastic nail, and still sink the dowel as needed, it did not work out to break the fasteners.

It bent and flattened, but it just didn't break!

✅ And I do not know in which basement, and for what pennies do people buy fasteners that breaks ???

Friends, I don't want to offend anyone, I just sincerely don't understand. Write your opinion, or better experience in the comments, it will be interesting to read.

In general, for me, plastic turned out to be an excellent option, which I advise you too 😁.
