How and what we have equipped a modern house in the village to comfortably and warmly spend the winter
The mention of heating a country house for many townspeople is associated with a smoking wood-burning stove or fireplace. A not very attractive picture of a volumetric woodpile, a heavy ax and a two-handed saw appears before the mind's eye, which reduces the euphoria of distance from the bustle of the metropolis. In fact, everything is not so sad. In terms of the available benefits of civilization, the modern village is not inferior to the city.
When buying a private house, we first asked the owners how it is heated and how well it keeps heat. As it turned out, heating hundreds of square meters, located on two floors, does not cause any particular difficulties.
Italian miracle
In the modern version, the traditional Russian stove turned out to be a Ferroli DOMIproject F24 double-circuit gas boiler.
In addition to the effective distribution of the coolant through the radiators installed in each room and bathroom, the Italian "miracle technology" provides the owners with hot water. At the same time, hot water supply is not associated with seasonal outages typical of urban heat and power plants.
The modern gas boiler is equipped with smart electronics that control the economical consumption of electricity and gas. With a power of 24 kW, which at first glance seemed a terrible figure, in the very first winter we were convinced that our utility costs are 1.5–2 times lower than the city ones. Out of habit, we didn’t really care about saving and wasted the heat in vain, while among the local “natives” this figure reached 1 to 5.
Useful add-ons
Unfortunately, the previous owners paid little attention to the insulation of the house, so in severe cold weather we had to resort to additional heating means.
Our spacious kitchen takes up almost half of the first floor. As a walk-through room bordering on a rather cold vestibule, two radiators are not always enough to heat it. In this case, you have to use a "warm floor". The system, consisting of a cable laid under the tiles, raises the air temperature by 5-10⁰C. And you can safely walk barefoot on the floor when the frost is -25⁰ outside! The device is equipped with a simple and convenient control panel with a display that allows you to set and control the temperature.
Air conditioners, which are installed on the first and second floors, provide no small help in heating a private house. In addition to cooling and air purification, Hansa and LG climate technology provides for heating.
To create a comfortable temperature in a 4X6 m room, the split system takes no more than 10 minutes. At the same time, electricity consumption is not comparable to traditional heaters. The only drawback is that the air conditioner can be used as an efficient fan heater until the outside temperature drops below 5⁰ frost.
Our "mobile application" to the above heat sources is a conventional oil radiator, which, if necessary, can be easily moved to the coldest zone.
