Do-it-yourself washing machine repair (bearing replacement)
I am of the opinion: if something can be repaired without compromising quality and appearance, then this should be done. For example, replacing bearings in a power tool. Or in the washing machine.
The first sign that the bearings need to be replaced in the washing machine is the spinning sound. It gets so loud, you can't hear each other in the apartment. Replacement is necessary at the first sign of bearing wear. But I reached the point where even the drum was very difficult to turn.
Washer Bosch Classixx 5. Pure German (inscriptions on the panel in German). When purchased about 15 years ago, we thought it would be eternal. But this replacement of bearings is already the fourth or fifth. Probably all because of the elongated (deep) drum. Now washing machines do not make such a depth. At the same time, the load on the bearings is increased (the lever is longer). I do not exclude that there is a factory unbalance of the drum.
I remove the top cover (two screws are unscrewed at the back). Fasteners all under the "asterisk". I unscrew two self-tapping screws on the panel. From the bottom (in the area of the legs) of the front panel, I unscrew two more screws and press down on the front panel. Having removed the ring from the rubber neck and the electric lock connector, I remove the panel. I unscrew the top bar, on which the drum hangs on the springs. I unscrew the concrete weights - on top of the drum and in front.
Disconnect all connectors (remember to unplug the washing machine). I photograph the connectors on the heating element so that I can then stick them in that color order. It can be seen that the gasket has started to leak and rust has formed. This was not the case during the last renovation. Disconnect the pipes. I take out the drum.
I remove the pulley from the shaft using a chisel (wedge). He got used to the water.
The drum is collapsible. This is convenient for Bosch bearing replacement models. In other models, there is nothing to do without powerful large bearing pullers. It can be seen that the drum has scratched a furrow inside, in places even right through. We'll have to solder it. The condition of the heating element and the drum is excellent. There is no scale. The water in the city is not hard, and plaque never forms in the kettle. All the more so here.
He took off the drum. The inner bearing has completely disintegrated. Rusty deposits indicate water ingress through the oil seal. I tried to remove the outer bearing with a puller. But it turned out faster to knock him out with a chisel. The remnants of the inner bearing (cage) were also knocked out with a chisel. Then he washed the body and drum from plaque: washing powder, a brush and a rag with a screwdriver.
Bearings and an oil seal were purchased in advance. I saved the dimensions in the invoice from the last purchase. I buy only expensive high-quality bearings of famous brands and a German oil seal. I tried to install inexpensive models during previous repairs - they do not work for long (1-1.5 years). The cost of the kit is a little more than 2000 rubles. I pressed in the bearings by gently tapping on the old bearing placed on top.
Next - soldering the rubbed body. I used a regular soldering iron and plastic from a children's 3D pen. There was no white plastic - it was sealed in yellow. He lubricated the gasket between the halves of the case with silicone sealant and assembled it. You need to wait a day before washing in order for the silicone to harden.
This time it was not without a surprise. The washing machine leaks during the first wash. My first thought is that the drum has drilled a hole again. Without taking things out, he took off the front panel and saw that he had not put a clamp on the drain pipe from the container of the washing powder bookmark. And almost all the water that washes it off flowed to the floor. I forgot about the spring clamp when assembling.
At one time, one English-language video about the exact same model helped me about replacing bearings. But now there are many videos from our masters. As an example, replacing bearings in a similarly designed washing machine:
Someone will say that why such recurring difficulties every 2-3 years? Isn't it easier to buy a modern, reliable model? Maybe. If I do not find a heating element to replace it in the next repair, it will be so.
