I don't need snow on my roof! This winter I made sure that the snow holders (in my house) can only do much harm.
I am not an opponent of the system π, I just think that the effectiveness of any technology should be considered on a case-by-case basis. Your home and your experience is a perfect example.
Friends, greetings to all. The end of winter, and the beginning of a new construction season (although it didnβt run out too much for me) is a good time to take stock and draw some conclusions.
Today we are talking about the roof.
The box of my house has already gone through its second winter.
β The first, just erected (without windows and doors).
β And the current one, already completely with a warm contour.
And all this time, I did not plan to install any gutter system or snow protectors.
And in this especially snowy winter, I found only confirmation of my choice.
We will start from a simple question:
β What does a snow cap on the roof of a house give?
+++ Pros +++
- First, dubious - this is additional insulation.
I just heard about such a "theory" somewhere, but honestly I donβt understand how it will work?
In my opinion, real insulation from snow will only be in the dugout.
And on the attic roof, like mine, all the heat that comes out of the house will disappear in the ventilation gap.
- Well, the second plusthat can be squeezed out is that this snow (on the roof) does not interfere. Ie it is not necessary to clean and clean it π ...
Minuses
- Additional mass.
This is the biggest drawback that outweighs everything. Especially in my house, which I am building without a project.
All structures, from the foundation to the roof, were made without any special calculations. More on examples of other houses. Therefore, whenever possible, I want to exclude unnecessary, excessive loads.
And looking at how much snow flew from the roof of my house this winter, a decent mass can accumulate there.
- Breakdowns of snow holders and drainage systems. This is already as a consequence of the previous
This is not a 100% problem, but it is quite common. Therefore, no snow holders - no problem ...
But at the same time it is necessary to take into account my specific case.
β From my roof, snow flies into a fairly safe area. There are no doors and walk-through areas under the slopes.
And if you clean everything regularly (which I am not tired of yet π), then this extra amount of cleaning will not be noticeable.
Although, perhaps I have not yet learned all the delights of a regular life in my home? And then my views will change ...
