No more growing seedlings in pots by the window! DIY mini greenhouse!
Today I will tell you about one very handy homemade product! Every summer resident and gardener will surely like it! Now the topic of planting is just very relevant, because the spring planting season has begun! And while the ground is warming up, you need to prepare the seedlings! Therefore, I suggest you make mini greenhouses-chests! They don't take up much space, but they still have plenty of room to grow!
So, you will need:
- plastic boxes for vegetables or fruits,
- cable ties or wire,
- stretch film,
- agrofibre,
- Scotch
- and 30 minutes of time!
Step by step instructions with a photo!
To make a greenhouse-chest, you will need 3 plastic fruit boxes. 2 of them should be shallow (with low sides), and one high.
On a high and one shallow drawer, cut the handles to the level of the sides. It is convenient to do this with a saw and scissors. Boxes should have straight sides, like boxes. This will be the base and cover for our greenhouse chest. Scroll through the photo below.
Now you need to fasten the lid to the base of the "chest". It is convenient to do this with cable ties. But if one is not at hand, ordinary wire will do. We fix at the edges and in the middle. 3 bindings are enough.
Next, we build a stand. To do this, we take a small box with low sides, set it on the bottom of the base of the chest with the handles down and fasten it around with the same ties or wire.
Now comes the most important thing! We wrap the chest with stretch film. It is more convenient to start with the lid. Further, moving to the base, we wrap the chest from all sides, leaving no gaps.
Using scissors, carefully cut the cling film in a circle, separating the lid and base of the chest. We glue the edge of the film on the lid with tape so that it does not come off. If the stretch film does not adhere well or comes off somewhere, wrap it with tape.
Put agrofibre at the bottom of the chest. Next, fill up the earth and water it abundantly. It is worth fixing a double-sided hook on the lid. A kind of "latch" so that the lid does not rise.
From the handles cut off from the drawers, you can build a stand for the lid. Cut off any excess by making a plank and place it in the round holes in the corners of the fruit crates.
As a result, you will have a versatile greenhouse chest! In it you can sow seeds for seedlings or propagate any plants! Fast, simple and practical!
