How many bags of cement do you need for a ten-meter garden path: exact calculation
Seven times measure cut once. An accurate calculation is necessary in the construction site so that there is no overspending or lack of material. Let's calculate how much cement is needed to build a garden path 10 m long, 0.6 m wide, 0.1 m thick.
What concrete is needed for a garden path
Building Norms and Rules 5.01.23-83 state that the following grades of concrete are used in individual construction:
- for a pillow under the foundation - M100;
- for blind area, walkway, floor screed, base for garage / shed / gazebo, installation of fence posts, production of wall blocks - М150;
- for foundations, load-bearing walls, columns, lintels and ceilings - M200.
Hence, it is clear that for an ordinary garden path it is necessary to use concrete of the M150 brand. According to another classification, this is the B12.5 brand.
Concrete proportions M150 (B12.5)
To obtain concrete of the above grade, cement, sand and crushed stone are needed in the following proportions: cement M500 - 1 part (bucket), sand - 4.5 parts (buckets), crushed stone - 6.6 parts (buckets). If you use M400 cement, the proportions will change slightly: cement - 1 part, sand - 3.5 parts, crushed stone - 5.7 parts.
Reference. Cubic meter of concrete grade M150 (B12.5) includes:
- cement M500 - 197 kg or 15 buckets with a volume of 10 liters;
- sand - 755 kg or 54 buckets;
- crushed stone - 1140 kg or 81 buckets;
- water - 190 liters or 19 buckets.
Calculation of the garden path
After we have decided on the brand and proportions of concrete, let's calculate the volume of the track and from this calculate how much cement is needed to erect 10 meters of the structure. To do this, we multiply the length, width and thickness of the track: 10 * 0.6 * 0.1 = 0.6 m³. This is how much solution you need to prepare.
From the above data, you can find out that a cubic meter of concrete M150 includes 197 kilograms of cement, which is practically 4 bags of 50 kg each. This means that 0.25 cubic meters of concrete is obtained from one bag of cement. Next, we divide the volume of the track by the volume of concrete obtained from one bag, and find out how many bags of cement are required for our track. 0,6/0,25=2.4 bags of cement grade M500, 50 kilograms each.
