The first spring dressing of winter garlic: what to use to build up green mass and get a rich harvest

In April, the first leaves (feather) appeared on the garlic bed. To build up the green mass, you should feed the plants well for the future harvest. We recommend using only proven and effective fertilizers.

How to feed garlic in spring

With a lack of nutrition, the tips of the feathers may turn yellow, the normal development of garlic will stop, and large heads may not be obtained if fertilization is not applied in the spring in time. It should be dominated by nitrogen.

If fed with urea, then this fertilizer begins to work at a temperature of more than +14 degrees Celsius. But, as a rule, this temperature does not always occur in mid-April. Therefore, it is better to use ammonium nitrate, and also add magnesium sulfate.

Magnesium promotes better absorption of phosphorus, which aids in good root development. Since autumn (when refueling a bed of garlic), I add double superphosphate to the garden when planting cloves.

If phosphorus fertilizer was not applied under the garlic bed in the fall, then the grooves in April can be sprinkled with superphosphate and the soil can be loosened.

Sulfur is also present in magnesium sulfate, which will contribute to better absorption of nitrogen. Thanks to this and other elements, in particular, magnesium, phosphorus and sulfur, by the end of April and the beginning of May, the root system will already be well developed and the aboveground mass will actively grow.

How to properly feed

In order for garlic to get the most useful elements from the soil, you need to create all the conditions for this. Therefore, first you need to dig a groove with a hoe directly next to the landings.

Thanks to this method, you can achieve more results. Fertilizer (food) will be delivered directly to the roots.

How to make nutritious garlic food

You will need 20 grams of ammonium nitrate (1 tablespoon) per 10 liters of water, 20 grams of magnesium sulfate (1 tablespoon) per 10 liters of water. I dilute each fertilizer in different containers so that no reaction occurs. In the prepared groove I put one solution at a time, then another. I immediately close the groove with earth using a hoe.
